New food: Pesto

Not just any pesto but home made pesto made from your very own basil leaves staight out of the garden. So colorful, fresh and garlicky. YUM.

I love fresh herbs. Basil and Cilantro especially. I don't have a garden, but I do have a planter on our balcony that I've recently filled with basil and cilantro. I used some of the basil in a pasta dish last night and I love having the cilantro available for making salads and fresh salsa.

I know, arent' they great, Maia? We have a couple varieties of basil including two red/purple cultivars that have a milder flavor and one smaller leafed one called Thai Basil which has a hint of a fennel flavor. They should do well even indoors by a sunny window. Sage, rosemary and three kinds of oregano are by our window which are doing really well at the moment. One oregano is called Hot and Spicy and it really is! Yowza! Oregano's supposed to be good for your immune system too.

I try to use a good amount of herbs and spices when I cook. Not only do they make it taste better with less oil and salt, but, as you said, they can have health benefits.

I love both restaurant and homemade food, but i usually do homemade because it's much cheaper. my favorite type is italian, anything involving cheese and pasta... i also like a lot of american, mexican, and chinese dishes.
