Wasn't Space Quest 6 SVGA? Or did you mean SQ5?

I do agree that a Background contest should be broken up into categories. EGA and VGA adventure styles are good starting points, unless we want to go by generations and give the early games their own category as well. The SVGA category is a little sketchy since they used many styles at the time, but they all seem to border on either hand-painted art or pre-rendered 3D. And in many cases, they used photographed locations.

Yes, I had intended SQ5 as a VGA game, not SQ6. SQ6 is more of a cartoony style game. I think SVGA needs to be split between cartoony or stylized and more realistic styles. I don't think you can rightfully compare, say Lighthouse with LSL7.

Yeah, different eras would be more interesting than the whole mishmash of sierra history.
