Rath Darkblade wrote: Sun Sep 19, 2021 6:41 am Hmm -- now I have a question! :)
I've been called into the Ducal court, where some Rude Duke What's-his-name challenged me because my stronghold is apparently on his land. (But he never did anything about it, so he can bite me). :P Anyway, he's now resorting to a whole bunch of under-handed tactics etc., and I know I'll have to fight a battle against him at some point.
My question is this: before this battle, I thought I'd get rid of this "What comes from below" quest and went down there. I got as low as level 8 (go team! ;)) and finally found a fampyr (I think?) that I can actually talk to. But no matter what I do, he attacks me - along with the rest of his cadre - and he turns my party against me, too. :(
Is there a way to talk to this guy without this happening?
There is. I had to look up where it was located.

If you have already learned the Engwithan language (from Icantha in Heritage Hill), you can talk to him and avoid a fight. He asks you to kill all the other fampyrs on this level for him. Once you've done that, he is willing to share information about himself and Od Nua, and let you pass. After resolving The Master Below, and possibly(?) through diplomatically convincing Od Nua to "let go" (as opposed to killing him). The player will be able to remind the ancient fampyr his name is Cabiros, although the fampyr recognizes the name, he does not believe it's his own. If you don't speak Engwithan, fighting him is your only option for proceeding to the lower levels.

Ah, I see. Then it's my own damn stupid fault, since I haven't been to Heritage Hill yet. ;) Thanks!

How many levels are there in The Master Below?

I can't remember. But when you get to something... very powerful... you will know you've reached the bottom. And probably died.

Sigh. :( I finally investigated Heritage Hill for the missing recruits ... and found Leyra's ghost ... and no matter what I do, so and the recruits attacked me. Is there a way to avoid this?

Also, I found I can't haha - sorry, Icantha. ;) But there's no option to ask her about the Engwithan language ... not even a quest or anything. :( All I can do is ask her what she's doing here and what's happened to Heritage Hill. So ... is there a way to move the quest forward? I've done everything else in Heritage Hill - i.e. found (and killed) the missing recruits, rescued Saeda, investigated Valta Manor ... and found (but haven't entered) the Tower, since I can't find any way to do it.

Spoilers are welcome ... :)

So I know some... conversation requires having high enough stats (like, say... in LORE or whatever... not saying you need LORE...)

I know I had talked to her (I click on anyone and everyone who has a unique name in that game) - and somehow got it from her, pretty positive.

As for your companions attacking you - I believe they fall under the influence of the Fampyr.... So if you can kill him before he kills you - I believe that is also an option. But I am not 100% sure.

I will need to catch up to be certain. :)

I've not played in a few days since I was trying to finish PQ1.

No problem, take your time. :) Real life takes precedence, obviously.

If I need LORE ... hmm. Can I get someone with a high LORE stat (e.g. that huge chanter with a gun) to talk to her? Or does it depend on my LORE stat, and mine alone? :( I just checked, and my LORE stat is 5. (Aloth the wizard's LORE stat is 9, same as the chanter. But I tried them both, and neither of them even has the option to ask her).

OK ... a simple question. How do I drink potions or use scrolls in this game? :) I tried left-clicking on them, right-clicking on them ... nothing works. :( Then again, I never needed them before. ;)

All convo is based on your stats. Your party members may add to the convo if their stats are high enough. Like, "Oh yes, I've heard of XYZ."

Potions and scrolls can only be used during combat if I remember correctly. You click on the character during combat and they should have actions (and skills) they can use.

OK ... I tried that, during combat, and used skills (e.g. a fighter's knockdown) and spells (e.g. fireball) etc. But potions and scrolls didn't come up. *shrug* Do I have to prepare them before combat, somehow?

I don't think so. I finished PQ1 so I will play some PoE see if I can remember how to do it.

Go into the inventory - drag it to a character's quick actions.

Then during combat (or out of) - you will have the option.

Note - if PARTY AI is turned on, I don't think you can access this because the AI is going to do what it thinks is best.

Got it. Thanks! :) I'll try it out.

By the way, in Heritage Hill there is a big tower over by the extreme left ... but I have no option to open the door there. Does it have anything to do with Icantha, whose help I need to learn the Engwithan language? If so, how do I open the bloody door?

(Please don't say turn the handle.) ;) Spoilers are welcome ... :)

I'll need to catch up to you. I am still slaughtering my way through Rhetic (sp)'s castle.

No problem. Rhetic? *thinks* I guess you mean the castle that eventually becomes your stronghold (and that you can buy stuff for) -- Caed Nua, I think its name is? ;)

By the way, I keep getting visitors to that castle - for instance, this happens:

...but I can't find the visitor anywhere. :( Any idea where they might be?

I don't think all of them will be accessible. Some of them will show up and want to talk to you - they're typically in your... I guess "throne" room or meeting room.
