OK -- I looked up all the games companies that started before the 80s, and whose name start with Mi. I narrowed it down to three.
Is the company MicroProse Software?
Yes, it is.

No, you don't control a helicopter in this game.

OK. Is it either one of the "F-15 Strike Eagle" games (either the first or second)?

No, it's not a vehicle that actually exists.
NOTE: I think we need to amend the rules a bit for this game. Perhaps we should state which genre your "poorly described game" is from right at the start because there are just too many games to sift through. Even knowing the genre may not help all that much considering people will probably just go down a list of titles (that's what Rath's currently doing), but it'd at least give people something to work with as opposed to guessing from "every game ever made."

Fair enough. For the record, I don't know anything about the genre ... so, all I can do is make some educated guesses to narrow down the list, and then go through what's left! *shrug*
Is the game "Airborne Ranger"?

That's part of my point, though. No one expects anyone to know every game of every genre, so a little direction from the start might be helpful.

No, it's not. Remember what I wrote before:
the subject of the game is a vehicle that doesn't really exist.
Airborne forces and US Army Rangers (they aren't necessarily the same thing, although Rangers can deploy that way) aren't vehicles and they do exist.
Here's another hint:
the real version of this vehicle has a designation that isn't accurate, but still shares this inaccurate designation with its fictional counterpart in this game.

Are you controlling a
stealth fighter in the game?

Is it a sci-fi (i.e. you go into space) game?

Psst, Tawm ... stealth fighters do exist.
Sorry, DPX -- I had no idea what "airborne ranger" is. *blush*
I'm not sure what this could be.
Is it
Solo Flight? It looks like it could be a real plane, but I know nothing about aviation. Sorry!

Yes, I am indeed controlling a stealth aircraft.

No, you don't fly into space in this game.

Today they do, but they didn't at the time this game was created and released. This aircraft's designation (both the fictional and real versions) confused a lot of people, but it most definitely was NOT a fighter.

So you didn't even look at the game to see if it might fit at all?

No, it's not Solo Flight. Tawmis is on the right track.

OK. I'm almost 100% sure I know what it is ... is it
F-19 Stealth Fighter?

Correct!
From the Wikipedia entry that Rath linked to:
"F-19 Stealth Fighter was developed before the public unveiling in 1988 of the F-117 Nighthawk attack aircraft – which the video game sought to represent – and MicroProse's rendering of the jet bears little resemblance to the actual F-117, including its designation. Instead, game designers relied on a 1986 F-19 model kit released by Testors."
Despite having an "F" designation, neither the fictional F-19 nor the real F-117 is a fighter. Both are stealth bombers/reconnaissance aircraft. That said, because
F-19 Stealth Fighter was designed with little-to-no real information (it was the Cold War and most of the info on the F-117 was classified), it could be outfitted with air-to-air weaponry and included a 20mm cannon. The real F-117 has none of those and strictly carried air-to-ground weaponry.
Anyway... Rath, it's your turn!

Ye failed to mention if it was a computer game/board game/etc for the basis.
So...
Is it a computer game?
