Sure. In fact, HTTPS stands for Hypertext Transfer Protocol (Secure). But everyone knows that, so I won't humblebrag about knowing it.

As for why SHP isn't secure ... I don't know either. From what I know, SHP always used the http protocol.

Collector, can you please shine some light on this mystery?

Since we both use the same provider (Arvixe) - I know fully well, that they charge money to renew secure certificates.

Things like this (not sure if it's up to date - mine, to the left of the address has a triangle with a "!" and says not secure next to the URL).

But I never get the messages you get Rath, unless I am at work.

Which is because work machines has sixteen different types of web protection and firewalls that murder functionality on the machine.

In Chrome, when I type in http://www.sierrahelp.com, Chrome automatically assumes (I think?!) that I mean https, and so adds the "s" - which results in an almost immediate failure.

In MS Edge, if I'm careful about it (and type http, not https), the forum loads just fine.

This was the same issue I had (along with NotBobSmith at the time, I think) with SierraHelp while using Firefox, IE and Chrome a year or two ago.

I had to remove the "s" from the "https:" in the links / bookmarks / favorites for the site to work (and still must).

I can't find that particular thread here... perhaps it's been moved or hidden as a "problem fixed" ?

Tawm ... yep, I can see the little triangle with a "!" that says "Not secure". The only way I can use this website is through Microsoft Edge now, which is weird. I haven't trusted or used the Microsoft browsers since the days of Microsoft ~~Exploder~~ Explorer, which was notoriously insecure. Have things changed much since then, security-wise?

Also, your work machines have sixteen types of firewalls???

You'd have thought one (or two - i.e. one for the server) would be enough! Why sixteen, for gawd's sake?

Goatmeal ... yes, I tried doing the same (i.e. removing the "s" from the "https:"). But no matter what I do, Chrome puts the "s" back.

Did ye try my think about disabling, if ye wanted, https in chrome.

Doesn't look like it's as easy as it used to be. I tried the first 3 or 4 suggestions from the Google searches of:

• "how to turn off https in chrome"
• "how to stop redirect from http:// to https:// chrome"

...and none of them seem to work for Chrome; at least, not for the sierrahelp.com domain website, anyway.

You might be stuck having to use another browser.

Try:

chrome://flags/

Look for:
Allow invalid certificates for resources loaded from localhost.
Allows requests to localhost over HTTPS even when an invalid certificate is presented. – Mac, Windows, Linux, ChromeOS, Android, Fuchsia, Lacros

#allow-insecure-localhost

Set to Disabled.

Was just looking at mine, wondering if that's what I disabled. Because I never see the issue you guys see from my home PC.

Mine's set to disabled, and like you, I don't have the same issues that Rath, goatmeal, or NBS seem to be encountering.

Hmm ... well, I looked at that. The flag was already Disabled, so I tried to enable it and load sierrahelp.com. No go. I disabled it and tried again ... still no go (but I knew that).

The problem seems to be that my bookmark of SHP simply says www.sierrahelp.com, so whether it's "http" or "https" is left up to Chrome. I edited the bookmark to specify "http", but Chrome ... doesn't save it? What.

Then, when I type www.sierrahelp.com, Chrome adds "https" in front, which leads to the issue. I take the "s" off, but Chrome puts it back on. (Oddly, this doesn't happen in MS Edge).

Anything else I can try?

You can also delete the "s" in FireFox, if you're not averse to using that particular browser.

I use FireFox at home to view the SierraHelp forums and MS Edge while at work (we cannot load other browsers [like FireFox] onto company-owned machines)...

Well I never bookmark it, I always type it or have it in my history (with the frequency in which I am here and so few other websites - unless I am googling things for D&D)

Er ... huh. *shrug* Well, I just tried it with Chrome, and voila! It loads just fine.

Looks like it's crisis over ... OR IS IT? </booming voice>

Oh well. We'll see how long this lasts - maybe the error will be back tomorrow? - but for now, it looks like it's all good. Thank you

His last login was 12/27/22 at 5:05pm (I assume Eastern time since that is where I am). Can you tell what he did at that time? This would have been the time when he made the post. Is there a record of it?
