(Hey, I should ask some questions sometimes, too)

Yes in King's Quest 1... as for being alive... I'd say, not in the standard sense. It's never revealed if I am alive or dead.

So ... you're neither alive nor dead. So you're undead! I didn't associate KQ1 with the undead. But never mind. You must be the king that Graham is replacing! He's alive to start with, but you spend the game finding the relics to restore him back to life!

Am I right? I must be. Yay! What do I win?

I am not the king.

You won't see me from the ground
so you will need to ascend
If I am to be found
And you don't need to wait until the end.

For the next clue...

But I am also eluded to elsewhere
In a land with hair as gold as the sun
But you won't actually see me there.

Are you the golden egg?

Is it a real egg? So it may or may not be alive. You have to ascend, climb the tree, to get it. And I think it might be referenced in KQ4. Was there a goose that lay golden eggs?

I am the golden egg!

You won't see me from the ground <-- indicating it's not found on the ground
so you will need to ascend <-- climb the tree
If I am to be found
And you don't need to wait until the end. <-- you can get the egg really at any time (unlike other parts that need other triggers to happen)
