It's a fun game, but I wish it would stop CTDing.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Are the Wights
after the orcs in the mountains with the trolls? I can't remember if I got to the Wights or not, before my X360 crashed... and I had to take a break from it all. Then, all these other things popped up in life, preventing me from returning to the game.

Yep, the wights are
after the goblins/orcs/trolls in the mountain.
It's a fairly fun game, but since it never crashed throughout the whole
goblin/orc/troll level, I never expected it to behave this way.
It doesn't CTD immediately, but at random intervals during
wight battles (especially in tombs), it decides to freeze for a few seconds, and I have no option but to Ctrl+Alt+Del, bring up Task Manager, and close the game. The curious thing is that I can still
hear the game music going (and party members fighting), even though Task Manager tells me that the game process is not responding. *shrugs* Any ideas?

That I don't know (about the freezing up) since I play it on the XBOX 360...
I have pretty much given up gaming on my PC, unless it only comes out on PC (such as Legend of Grimrock), even though I have a new Alienware PC that's pretty high end now... Just too many problems getting games to work on a PC vs a console.

Presently playing the following:
- King Arthur's Gold, a very fun little 2D block-based game with some great multiplayer modes and a surprisingly-fun WIP singleplayer/multiplayer Zombie mode!
- Nexuiz Beta (more like Nexuiz Alpha) - certainly more reliable in terms of being able to connect to others compared to previous builds in the beta, but the lag is still unbelievable for what seem to be rather simple data transfers (probably has to do with the game using CryEngine 3's native, inefficient netcode implementation).
- Cities in Motion, a complex passenger transport simulation which is very difficult due to the wide variety of passengers and possible destinations.
- Legend of Grimrock, basically Eye of the Beholder with Crysis graphics!

I was playing the SoftPorn version on my 1997 Larry collection, which is a remake. For this I used my Win98 Dino. Unfortunately, though the game runs, the game information that is stored in a separate NotePad file (such as Look Girl information) doesn't show. It's pretty troublesome if you don't know whether you did the lady of the night or not, and it takes out a good amount of fun as well.

Thanks for the help, but I think I'm just going to give up on this game.
I've managed to make it past the crashes in chapter 2, and managed to make it as far as chapter 8 (even though the game continues to crash randomly, which is very annoying)... but then, during chapter 8 (
the big showdown in Carn Dum Fortress), the game began stuttering and then crashed. So I tried again, and again, and again... thud. Thud. Thud. Four crashes in four minutes.
Of course, I'm sitting here and thinking "What the hell?!"
So, I'm just going to have to uninstall this game and try something different, like Skyrim. *shrug* Any ideas if it's possible to completely remove this piece of complete %&@^ from my PC?
I tried googling for "War in the north"+"uninstall", or "War in the north"+"remove" etc., but nothing came up. Am I stuck with this fershlugginer thing for good now?
Ugh.
It really is too bad. The promos looked quite promising. I thought it might be something along the lines of LOTR meets DAO. Oh well, it's been about as fun as a barrel of bees!
Now where do I apply for a refund to get back the time I spent playing this thing?

Ugh.
After you've uninstalled the game, use
CCleaner to completely remove any leftovers hanging around the registry.
I'd also recommend using
Defraggler (which is a lot better than the stock Windows defragmenter) to defrag your HD after having installed/uninstalled several programs.

Well, I bought Alan Wake for 50% off on GOG and I'm sorry that I did.
The game's controls are horrendous. If I so much as barely move my mouse left or right, the camera swings all around. All it took was a subtle nudge to make the camera spin 360 degrees.
Yes, I turned down the sensitivity settings on my mouse and the game itself. In fact, I had the sensitivity settings turned as low as possible in the game. It doesn't help.
After doing a brief Google search, I saw that AW's developer recently changed the camera sensitivity settings -- namely mouse smoothing and mouse acceleration. A lot of PC players are having problems. Some have resorted to actually using a gamepad (which I won't, because it needs a 360 controller and those are well over $60) which is ridiculous.
Until this is fixed, I can't play the game. I can't control my character if he performs a drunken Chinese fire drill ever time I move the mouse.

Sounds like puke time for anyone sensitive to certain 3-D games.

Possibly. The one thing that might keep some people from upchucking is that the game uses a third-person perspective. I think fewer people get motion sickness when in third-person than first-person view.

Not necessarily. I'm very sensitive toward that, which is a right pain in the neck. As soon as the camera isn't stationary I have problems, such as in
Deathtrap Dungeon or in
TV shows with handheld cameras.

Sorry to hear that, DPX. I have no problems whatsoever with the controls. I hope they fix it, because it's a truly terrific game.

Well, from the looks of things, the controls were changed relatively recently, so you might've beaten the game before the changes went through.

Teen-hood favourite Order Out Of Chaos: a picture puzzle of which the pieces are shuffled and two change places every half a second, and you try clicking on them when they're in the right place, all to the tune of Chopin's compositions.
