I just re-downloaded the collection as the one that I had was an earlier version. However, I still cannot get it to crash. Extract the attached zip into the KQ6 folder. Try starting the game with SVM.BAT.

Ok, two problems with this idea.

Unfortunately, the SDA will not accept Scummvm because it's an emulator (I've already asked about DOSBox and they said it's fine because the game came with it).

Two, the game box is so large with it that I can't see the bottom of the screen so in order to even check to see if it will work, I need to reduce the scummvm box resolution. How do I do that please?

ScummVM is not an emulator. It is a replacement for the original game interpreter. To play a DOS or a 16-bit Windows program/game on modern Windows requires either a new interpreter or an emulator. No other way around it. Even XP Mode makes use of Virtual PC.

As to the window size, drop this in the game's folder and run it. Select "Small window".

Here is a patch that I just made. It fixes the problems with the GOG KQ releases. It does not change the GOG installation, but just uses it for the game files. Afterwards, the GOG installation may be uninstalled, if desired or left intact.

Ok, thanks, I'll try it out tomorrow since I just did a scumm run, which oddly enough didn't have a single crash, though there was no song over the credits. Huh

The Girl in the Tower is a Redbook CD audio track. It was written by Mark Seibert and digitally recorded, with Ron Delarm playing guitar with vocals by Bob Bergthold and Debbie Seibert (Mark Seibert's wife) performing vocals. This song can be played by placing the game CD in a regular audio CD player. It is not included with the GOG version. To hear it in game requires the original CD to be mounted in DOSBox or the song to be ripped from the CD and placed in the game's folder. My patch will give you the opportunity download this track so it will play during the game credits, so be sure you are online when you run the patch.

That's weird because it usually plays when I've finished the game in DOSBox, that's why I commented on it being abesent

Probably what you were hearing was the MIDI version.

I don't think so, both the cd-rom "floppy disc upgrade" version and the 1997 King's Quest Collection don't have the redbook audio track but the complete song plays each time at the end.

There may be a lower quality recording in the RESOURCE.AUD, I don't remember as it has been years since I have played the game to completion natively and I have never played the DOS version all the way through. Anyway, my installers make allowances for the missing Redbook track. They download a pre ripped track for the versions that are missing the track.
