Kyrandia Book 1 (Complete), II (Complete), III (Complete)

Talk about games or general tech issues that are not Sierra related.

Absolutely!

BTW, I've been meaning to share this review here for a while. If the opening paragraphs are accurate, Kyrandia would've been a Sierra game had history played out differently.

That was an interesting read; in relation to Sierra and that it was based off a Text Adventure for BBS'.
Having run my own BBS back in the day, I can't say I ever heard of the game it was based off of - and I use to have a ton of BBS 'door' games.

To round things off, here is a set of saved games for Book 3: Malcolm's Revenge.

I included three sets of files for the final chapters, as gameplay varies somewhat depending on which conscience(s) you choose to keep. All possibilities are represented here.

Partly to divert myself from the stressors of the last few years, I’ve been digging into these three games deeper than I ever have before. Not just replaying them, but studying how they’re put together, and have found some useful hacks through trial and error. I’ve even managed to correct a few graphical glitches using a combination of programs, and will try to assemble a patch someday. There were also more differences between re-releases than I first thought, and I can’t believe it took me so long before I spotted them. Fun to still be learning new things about games that are pushing 30.

I’ve compiled a fair bit of research so far and will find a way to present my discoveries for anyone interested. In particular, I finally found a way to export raw artwork from the first game with the proper palettes! For those who don’t know, palettes were stored differently for the first game than the later two, and no Westwood art program is capable of loading a K1 image’s entire palette due to missing colours. Through pure luck, I found a solution, so I’ll share details of that when I compile all this together.

Yes! Count me interested in all of the above!

I really enjoyed these games - save for a few puzzles (the gems, for example).

Now this is interesting. I never knew there were Chinese translations, or that they went to the trouble of redoing the opening titles.

Is that official or a fan translation?

I think they’re official. I remember comments about someone wanting to use a KryoFlux to preserve their copy of the disks. Also, I saw a picture of the “Malcolm’s Revenge“ CD, which looked officially pressed and had all the relevant copyright info.

So, I was bored today, and decided to do a little modding of The Hand of Fate. After some file conversions and renaming, I managed to replace Zanthia's sprite with Jessica's, revealing her hitherto unused walking animations buried within the resource files. I'll try to upload a video at some point demonstrating this, but here's a preview.

That's cool. What are you using to view/edit the LoK Source?

Mostly Engie File Converter. WestPak is useful for some things, but it's an older program and doesn't offer as much compatibility.

While I was working with GoG about the Lighthouse game issue I was having - I decided to play Legend of Kyrandia (Book 1) and captured it and figured - might as well throw that on my Let's Play Sierra Games channel (and yes, I know it's not a Sierra game!) :D

I admittedly used my own map from this post below for the caves...

And still managed to get lost a few times. lol

Also initially forgot about saving before trying the birthstones... Sigh.

So there was a lot of wandering trying to find random stones... lol

I am actually doing screen shots and making my own map at this point.
By making my own map I found the 5th rock - this took me much longer than it should have (not sure if the forum will shrink the size and make it useless)

2 was by far my favorite of the series.

I love LOK1 because I love the main character - some of his dialogue is really fun/good.
LOK2 I also enjoyed... with the surprise villain. I love how the games don't take themselves seriously.
With the Hand of Fate, literally being a Hand. :D
