Could it be "Jagged Alliance"?

Are you "Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem"?

As far as I know, the Fire Emblem series was exclusive to Nintendo consoles, and Tawmis said we're trying to guess a computer game (and I don't think emulators count).
Oh. In that case... are you King's Quest 7?
(Those two are the only ones that came out in January 1994 that seem relevant, and I haven't played KQ7 yet, so I don't know - it could be right)
No, the game I remember, the character you control is definitely male.
DeadPoolX wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 10:18 pm
Okay, so that suggests this game came out in January 1994.
Was this game an RPG?
Yes (to both, the date and RPG).
What's the basis for this RPG, as in... is it fantasy, sci-fi, real world, etc?

Could it be "Jagged Alliance"?
Jagged Alliance is a turn-based tactics game with RPG elements, and you control multiple mercenaries, some of whom are male and others who're female. Also, JA came out in 1995, and we're looking for something that was released in January 1994.

GAH!
Then Google lied to me - it told me that "Jagged Alliance", as well as "Final Fantasy 6" and "Master of Magic", came out in January 1994!
Google searches suck.
(If you're curious, I did a google search for "computer games released in January 1994" and took it from there. I'm a little too young to remember any of them, seeing as I graduated from high school in that year and didn't have much of an independent income yet).

Just to be sure that I'm not wrong in this case, I checked several different places online and Jagged Alliance was in fact released in April 1995. Interestingly enough, Final Fantasy 6 (a console-only game) was released in April 1994 while Master of Magic was released in September 1994, so NONE of those games actually came out in January 1994.
Obviously who ever entered in the information that told you all three were released in January 1994 was careless, ignorant, or stupid... maybe all three.
They certainly do today. I used to be able to find anything quickly and easily, and now search results are often clogged up with crap and outdated or irrelevant information.
I'm not sure if it'll help, but you might want to try using
DuckDuckGo. I've found it's a better search engine and unlike Google, DDG actually respects user privacy.

You're older than I am! I started high school in 1994.

No, it wasn't Jagged Alliance - although my love of just about all SIR-TECH games, the game I am thinking of wasn't developed by SIR-TECH.

Definitely fantasy, because of the fairies I mentioned that you have to talk to. But there's also magic in the game, so definitely fantasy.

Sigh. So I tried DuckDuckGo ... and it sent me to a wiki-list of all RPGs created in 1994 ... which wasn't much use.
How about "Ravenloft: Strahd's Possession"?

No, wasn't Ravenloft - or any type of D&D (licensed) game. Reminds me more like a
King's Quest game or
Legends of Kyrandia, but not by Sierra or Westwood studios. The studio who made it was a pretty well known company, however.

Drat it! There go "Dark Sun: Wake of the Avenger" and "Eye of the Beholder", also released in 1994.
Is it "The Elder Scrolls: Arena"?

Yeah, figured I'd spare you running down the D&D (licensed) games, because I feel like they released quite a few back to back.
Rath Darkblade wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 3:35 am

No, definitely not any of the Elder Scrolls (or related games) - and definitely not first person POV. Definitely more like King's Quest and Legend of Kyrandia where you're controlling the character - with similar graphics.

I will say I googled "games like King's Quest" and quickly found a list that listed games similar to King's Quest. Some of which you can already eliminate based off clues already given here.
And in said list, the answer to the game is there, that this is about.

Crap, I forgot about this game. It's
Dragonsphere, right? Although if it is Dragonsphere, you mislabeled the genre when I asked, because Dragonsphere is an Adventure Game, not an RPG.

It is indeed, Dragonsphere! And yes, I did call it an RPG - not sure what I was thinking. I thought fantasy... RPG. My bad.
But yes, Dragonsphere came out in Jan... and the reason I started with "I remember a computer game where you talk to faeries..." I figured, if someone remember - the part where you talk to the faeries is EASILY the worse part of the game "Red tells lies", "Yellow will sometimes lie", "Blue will tell the truth if you ask Red first", "Green always tells the truth"... and clicking them repeatedly to get by.....
I kept saying "it was like King's Quest" - because when you google
games like King's Quest the first result is a
reddit thread that has the title "any games like kings quest out there" - Legend of Kyrandia is mentioned quite a bit - which we know is not it because I kept saying it's like King's Quest and Legend of Kyrandia - and someone recommends
Dragonsphere. Which if you've never played (Rath?), I'd recommend it.

I tried playing Dragonsphere back in 1994 when it was new, but I never got into it.
Dragonsphere was free on GOG for a long time (which is when I picked it up again), but nowadays you need to buy it. It's currently on sale because both
GOG (74% off) and
Steam (75% off) are still having their "Winter Holidays Sales."
Tawmis wrote: ↑Thu Dec 30, 2021 10:35 pmEr, yer turn DPX!
So it is!
I remember a complex and very mod-friendly computer game that takes place in a non-Earth medieval world (with no magic) where you could learn trades, fight as a soldier or mercenary, rise in social and military rank, become a knight, become a king's vassal, fight in tournaments, get married and have kids, and eventually set out on your own to create a kingdom and possibly take over other kingdoms in the process.
