I have this game - but never got far - but.... It sort of sounds like (especially the married, have kids - based on other SIMS games)....

Is it: The Sims Medieval?

- A player can create Hero Sims to control, each one having a profession (monarch, knight, merchant, etc.

Players are able to control several types of 'heroes', or professions, each with different abilities and responsibilities. These include:

Monarchs will control the kingdom and be able to deal with neighboring kingdoms diplomatically. They can engage in duels, marry important NPCs, and issue proclamations or edicts. Their title changes between Lord/Lady, King/Queen and Emperor/Empress depending on the number of territories they have annexed.
Wizards can enchant or fight using their spells, which are learned from a large spellbook and include motions which must be memorized.
Spies can poison other Sims, or steal for the kingdom.
Priests come in two varieties, Peteran and Jacoban. Peteran Priests follow a simpler path and try to convert Sims with uplifting sermons. Jacoban Priests use fear as a conversion tool and wear expensive clothing.
Blacksmiths use ore mined in the kingdom to produce armor and arms.
Physicians are expected to keep people healthy using period technology, particularly leeches.
Knights can train for strength and endurance and are used to conquer new lands.
Merchants have access to foreign goods and trade opportunities.
Bards can recite poetry and play lute music for other Sims.

No, it's not The Sims: Medieval, although I can definitely see why you'd guess that.

HINT 1: This game is massively mod-friendly. I don't mean mods as in new characters (which is possible too), but mods that change all the visuals, gameplay, character interaction, etc. For instance, there are mods that turn the normally medieval-like world into the Old West or the American Civil War or well-known fictional properties, like LOTR, Game of Thrones, or Star Wars.

HINT 2: Cheating is not only allowed, but in single player it's somewhat encouraged as there's an option that allows you to cheat whenever you want that's built into the game through the launcher. The developers want you to play the game however you want.

HINT 3: Multiplayer is available and although I didn't play it much, there's a well-known multiplayer-only mod (that I did try, but ultimately didn't enjoy much) that changed the entire environment into the Napoleonic Wars.

(That last hint will likely give the game away, but considering how niche this game was, I felt I needed to really offer some good clues.)

Heh - you'd think it's easy - like I thought the "talking to faeries to pass" might be a dead give away... :D

So - I dug around, based on those clues - and wonder is it one of the Mount & Blade games - (There seems to have been a few, but you seem to be talking about the first one in particular - so I'd guess Mount & Blade itself)...

I was able to find Napoleon add on, and find you can fight as a mercenary, but couldn't find anything about cheating, or getting married and having kids, so that may mean I am not on the right path. :D

No, that's not quite right, but you're definitely on the right track and your guess was exceptionally close. :D

Hmm ... it sounds almost like Skyrim? *crosses fingers*

It is very, very mod-friendly and cheat-friendly.

Multiplayer is available, though I haven't heard about the multiplayer-only mod that changes it into the Napoleonic Wars.

There are several mods that change the whole thing into LOTR, GoT, and SW.

You can learn trades, fight as a soldier or mercenary, rise in social and military rank, fight in tournaments, get married and have kids, and even set out into other kingdoms.

Then again, it has magic. So there is that. :(

Are you any of the Elder Scrolls games?

No, this game is definitely not any of the Elder Scrolls games. Look at the guess Tawmis made. He's right... but not 100% right, if you catch my drift. ;)

:( Sigh. All right. Let's summarise what we know. The game is:

- complex
- very mod-friendly
- runs on PC
- takes place in a non-Earth medieval world (with no magic) where you could learn trades, fight as a soldier or mercenary, rise in social and military rank, become a knight, become a king's vassal, fight in tournaments, get married and have kids, and eventually set out on your own to create a kingdom and possibly take over other kingdoms in the process.

- Not part of The Elder Scrolls games
- Not a Mount & Blade game
- Not The Sims Medieval

Hmm ... was the game released in the 2000s (i.e. between 2000 and 2010, inclusive)? :)

He didn't say it wasn't "A" Mount & Blade game. He said it wasn't just the straight up "Mount & Blade."

So I am going to guess Mount & Blade: Warband which added more complexity and multiplayer, which I believe was a part of the initial description of the game on DPX's mind.

Correct! Yeah, M&B:W is a great game (although the graphics aren't particularly good) in the amount of freedom it gives you. I still haven't found and done everything in it and I've played that game for years.

Anyway... it's your turn, Tawmis!

Nice!

OK. This one may be easy based on the info I'm giving. :)

I remember a computer game - all together, there was three of them released (that I am aware of) - but they all share the same theme. You have to be very sneaky in this game.

Hmm ... is it Thief? ;) There were three of them, I think:

1. Thief: The Dark Project
2. Thief II: The Metal Age
3. Deadly Shadows ................ oh, and:
4. Thief (2014)

Drat. :( But it's better than my other guess, Assassin's Creed ... which has 12 (!!!) instalments.

You are correct, it's THIEF.

Your turn.

And remember - specify if it's a computer or console game! ;)

I remember a computer game where two slightly maladjusted detectives acquire psychic powers and defeat eldritch monsters for fun and (not much) profit. :D

*headdesk* I didn't think it was that obvious, was it?

Yes, it is indeed Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse. :) Your turn, DPX!
