It's due to be released next month. Here's hoping. And you are right. It looks like they sprung for an A-list cast, which is encouraging.

The new
King's Quest was just put up on Steam for pre-purchase!

Apparently they also pulled the original KQ collection from Steam at the same time....I can only guess as to their reasoning for that. I think it's retarded.

Valve's reasoning might be as simple as their ability to sell it on Steam expired. Other games have disappeared from Steam before, not because Valve wanted them gone, but because the publisher ordered it or Valve's access to sell them was up.

That's GoG, not Steam. The only time a game was removed from Steam was because a developer went bankrupt or specifically chose to remove it. And the other Quest games are still up so it's doubtful Valve had anything to do with it. Especially seeing as the new KQ is coming. That seems like something ActiVision would be on top of. This is deliberate, I just can't fathom why.

There are a lot of games
removed from Steam for a variety of reasons. I don't know what the reason is in this particular case.
I must say, I don't like it when a game series gets a new entry that just has the exact same name as the first game. This new game is called King's Quest, without any subtitle. And "King's Quest: The Complete Collection" is just the full version of this new game, not an actual collection of King's Quest games.

That would confuse morons...and there are an awful lot of morons. I also hate this new way of rebooting/sequeling games and just using the same name....Wolfenstein, Doom, King's Quest, Mortal Kombat, etc.

You didn't even read what I wrote, did you?
Go back and look at it. Read it carefully this time.
We were talking about Steam, not GOG (although both have had games pulled from them before), and I specifically mentioned that the original KQ games no longer being on Steam may not even be Valve's choice.

I did read it but it was late and I remember reading it differently than what I'm reading it as now. Sorry. Night eyes shouldn't internet.

Don't know if it was posted already but pre-orders are up everywhere, it grants you bonus content it seems; a playable epilogue.

The original game did have a subtitle. King's Quest I: Quest for the Crown.

KQ1 was originally released as just "King's Quest". The subtitle "Quest for the Crown" was only added in a re-release. And the number 1 was only added with the SCI remake.
But even if we grant that the first game had that subtitle, giving a new entry to a series the same name as the series is still stupid. And while I do see some references to the subtitle "A Knight to Remember", that isn't actually on the store page.

I haven't pre-ordered yet because I'm hoping I can get a free copy to review.
If I can't get a review copy before July 28, I'll just pre-order it.

While I didn't play KQ1 when it was originally released, adeyke's comment makes a lot of sense. Roberta wouldn't have named it "King's Quest 1", because the future of the franchise was far from certain at the time. Furthermore, adding the number "1" would have fueled rumours among gamers about KQ having a sequel, which was not guaranteed by anyone at the time.
(And we all tied onions to our belts - which was the style at the time.) *G*
