I am always so envious in this thread, when I read about you guys who find this cool stuff in Thrift stores. :)
I'm actually kind of surprised to hear that. I'd think that a city with a population as large as San Diego's, there would be a higher chance of running into more obscure things in thrift stores.
Still, I'm pretty sure I've used up my "thrifting luck" quota for the entire decade.
I think the problem is the cost of living - and thus the cost of renting spaces for stores (like thrift stores) is REALLY expensive... so if it doesn't make a lot of money, they don't last (or do it at all)...

Hi there,

has been calm here lately. In an attempt to revive this thread here are some items I was able to acquire during the last couple of weeks.
Apart of SQ1 and LSL6 all of them are shrinkwrapped, as an addition to the "open" versions I already own.

LSL5, PC VGA
LSL5.jpg
LSL 6 as the German Multimedia CD Version, PC
LSL6.jpg
Manhunter New York, Atari ST
MHNY.jpg
Gold Rush! PC
GR.jpg
Space Quest 1 Remake, PC EGA
SQ1_N.jpg
Space Quest 1, Black "Edition". This one was funny. I wondered, why the box was so packed, when it arrived. Reason was that the 3,5" Disks of SQ1 Remake VGA were crammed into the box as well :-)

Best wishes,
C.

I am jealous of the black SQ1. It is the main SQ thing missing from my collection. But no manual or Droid coupons?

Actually it is pretty incomplete. It has the two original disks in its origirnal sleeves and the Manual. One coupon is missing, only the Droids B us is present. The catalogue is missing, instead there is a early nineties catalogue included. The inner plastic shell is missing. Some ad fliers and a warranty card is included. SQ 1 Remake as VGA version was included as well :-)
But as I already had 2 complete Black Ones, I bought this one mainly because of the excellent condition of the cardboard box.

Best wishes,
C.

The box does look better than many I have seen on eBay.

Constantin, yeah it really sounds sooo incomplete, all you got was cardboard! You'd best give it to me then ;)

It has been a while as I have not been getting much, lately. What is missing from my collection is mostly the rare stuff that costs more than I am willing to spend, like the High Res Adventures or the origami boxes. Anyway, I have been looking for this for a while and managed to snag it for $35 with free shipping.

Thats great! I also have that version. Its the best one of the series, not the game per se, but the original Hero's Quest, the way it was meant to be :)

Hero's Quest is not that hard to find. I don't think that the printed too many copies after the rename. There are probably more copies from the collections than there are of the standalone renamed game. The great thing about this one is that the copy is incredibly pristine. Outside of applying the remove moire filter, the scan is not altered or fixed in any way, just a straight scan.

I have to admit, that I didn't even know of such a version in the first place :-) Excellent condition the box seems to be in!
Unfortunately though, now one more on my list of what to look for :-)

This is the re-release of Hero's quest after the name change. I don't think it was in print very long since it was replaced with QfG2 on the store shelves shortly after. Hero's Quest is easy to find.

Ok, perhaps because its in USA?. Here in Europe it's the other way around. So many QFG1's that you trip over them at the supermarket! Hero's Quest took a long time for me to find.

US eBay searches commonly turn up Hero's Quest and the VGA remake, but the standalone renamed game is as rare as hen's teeth. I generally limit my looking to the US eBay, given the high shipping overseas and that I generally want the original US releases. I also had my only bad eBay experience from a UK seller. Hero's Quest was flooded onto the market here. The European releases were usually behind that of North America, especially if it was modified for a localized version. So perhaps by the time of the name change was around the same time as when it was first released in Europe.

Perhaps, that would make sense. I also got my HQ1 from the US. I also prefer the "original American" versions and not the watered down European versions, with several languages spoiling the covers e.t.c.
Yeah, postage is a factor too, sometimes it costs more to send than the actual price of the auction!
