From the space quest 4 update from

Does anyone know how to do this? I've tried google, but nothing worked. I'm trying to do this for KQ5-7.

Looking at the update and the zip drive - I am not sure there needs to be anything done on your end if you install the patch. Because the patch includes a Resource.000 in it - so I assume this is a new version of the Resource.000 - that would make reading SQ4 faster. But Collector can pop in and correct me if I am (and usuall am!) wrong.

Argon is asking if the same thing can be done with other SCI games. I don't think that this really helps that much. I never noticed any load time boost from this patch. DOSBox has been optimized so much that there shouldn't be any performance issues with all but the most demanding games on really old PCs. The Sierra SCI games are very undemanding. Cycles set at around 7000-8000 will be fast enough to not notice load times, but still be slow enough to avoid the many speed bugs.
If you are really determined to do this, you might try contacting NewRisingSun (it is his update) for information on how he did it.
