Official Sierra Boards

It seems that I can't no longer see the boards. I continuously get an Internal Server Error. Does this mean they are down and forever gone? :(

I doubt they're already gone. There's probably an issue with their server. I have had that in the past. Give it a few hours (or a day).

I was recieving an error this morning as well, but it seems to be back up right now. I heard that they are preparing to close the forums down, just as they will most of the multiplayer servers.

Correct. Which is why Collector threw the Sierra Help pages on its own domain (was hosted on my site) - and he created these forums (used to have a forum section dedicated to Collector's page). Now with them closing down the official forums - this one was born to give everyone a place to post when they close down the official one.

Downside is you have to put up with chatty people like me.

The "Jive" servers that VU setup to replace the old WebX boards have always been flaky and always going down. It is part of why so many of the old Sierra form regulars disappeared with the move from WebX.

"Flaky" is exactly the right word. So is "cumbersome", "inelegant", "horrible", and "slow".

But... I think we need to look at backing up threads from the VU forums that it'd be a shame to lose forever.

What is wrong with the official forums is just the forum itself with its "jive" software, overly restrictive setup/policy, poor aesthetic design, its painfully slow, unreliable servers and a management that was unresponsive to their customer's wants and needs, not the members or mods.

The thing that ticked me off about the Vivendi forums is that under firefox you have to enable the stupid clipboard in order to copy and paste from that site due to some kind of software they used for their forums.

Ah well, it was easy enough to implement - but I agree, it was part of the whole JIVE experience!

I believe Jafa said over on my forums that he's working on that?

Have not heard from jafa since then. I am hoping that he joins this board. He belongs on a Sierra tech board.

Have you PM'ed him on Tawmis.com? He so rarely comes on. So perhaps if he has his profile set to notify him of PMs - if he sees that - he can come read it and know of this place! :)

I haven't seen him on the VU Boards in a while, nor has he updated any of his Windows releases in a few weeks.

It is a thought.
