Police Quest 2 Walkthrough Problem (spoilers!)

I was reading the
PQ2 walkthrough (I don't know why since I've beaten the game too many times to count) and I noticed a problem that's integral to completing the game.
On the part labeled "The Next Day" you'll visit an Inn at 753 Third Street. After completing the Inn -- which includes an action sequence -- you return to the station. The walkthrough then neglects to mention that you MUST adjust your gun's sights at the firing range before continuing on.
If you don't adjust your gun's sights, you won't be able to hit and kill the terrorists on the plane later on. This leads to an "unwinnable" situation in the game and the only way to fix it is to restore your game.
That's extremely frustrating, especially since anyone playing the game for the first may not know to do this. If the walkthrough doesn't help them properly, then they'll be stuck.

You must have missed it. The end of the that section says
...go to the shooting range. Resight your gun to be sure.
Thanks for reporting though. I appreciate it when errors are made known to me. Errors are almost inevitable as a site gets to be big enough.

Ah... okay. I did miss it then. I was looking for the words: "ADJUST GUN" or "ADJUST SIGHTS." Either one of those is required to type in.
At any rate, if you can edit it, I'd suggest making that part clearer. Maybe bold it, since missing that one action can screw up your game.

Clarification can be as important as fixing an error. I probably will edit it when I get chance.
Edit, it is now fixed.

Yea I ran into this when I was replaying PQ2. I was using a FAQ that was posted over on GameFAQS's and that FAQ failed to mention re-aligning the sights. Fortunately I had made a save at the mall after discovering the gun in the toilet in the men's bathroom... so I didn't loose too much progress.
It was kinda annoying though... and makes me thankful I remembered to make unique saves every 10-15 minutes... something I learned waaaaaaay back when I was a kid. Sierra games are notorious for their dead-end paths and is part of their challenge. I still remember getting trapped in the catacombs in KQ6 without the brick... <<shudder>>

Oh Andrea... a gentle nudge, in case you forgot about the PQ2 walkthrough. If you have any time.

Collector, I started working on it a little while ago, even if I'm going pretty slow... but wasn't it about PQ1VGA?!

I guess it was. I just remembered that it was a PQ walkthrough that had a problem.

I'm having exactly the same problem. I tried looking for an answer and found it, but still don't know how to use it.
OK, it's day 2 at the shooting range, I hit the target in the chest, I use up all my ammo and reload. Now I adjust the gun again, shoot once and check - it's still OK. However, I still run into the same problem on the plane.
Is there any difference between adjusting gun and adjusting sights? If I type "adjust sights" I see the gun again and nothing tells me if I'm doing it right...
On the first day I didn't do any readjusting after the shooting range and I didn't have any problems in the park...

Your gun sights might have to be adjusted more accurately than just hitting the chest region of the target. I don't recall if the game informs you if the sights are adjusted properly or not on Day 2. But this is what I do. Aim for something smaller on the target, like the "1" or "0" in the head or chest portion of the target. Fire, and then check to see how far off the mark you are. Adjust the sight and repeat until you are spot on.

OK, I already managed to solve the problem. The solution, in case someone else has this problem: you have to type "look target". I omitted it beacuse I thought my non-computer, player's, human eyes were enough to see the results, but actually typing it and reacting to the message is necessary to trigger the right result on the plane.
Btw, the final shooting with Bains was insanely difficult too. If you truly and fully wait for him to shoot first, there's no time left to react... But it seems that shooting when he tries to shoot Sonny is enough for the act to be considered self-defense.
