What do Gabriel Knight 3 & Dragon Age Origins got in Common?

Post by Tawmis »

Simon Templeman!.

I was watching HUMAN TARGET last night (great, great, GREAT show!) - and one of the characters features resembled Loghain from Dragon Age: Origins. And he even had the accent - so I thought, "I wonder if it is him?"

So I checked him on IMDB (the person who played Loghain) - and saw it wasn't him. But as I scrolled through Simon's credits, I took notice that he did:

# Gabriel Knight 3: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned (1999) (VG) (voice) .... Prince James / MacDougall

(He actually has a very extensive amount of work in both acting and voice acting!)

I recognized Templeman's voice immediately, but not from GK3. I've played every game in the Legacy of Kain series and Templeman is Kain's voice.

In fact, Templeman had an appearance in an episode of Angel (the TV show spin-off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer) called "Hell-Bound" as some sort of ghost. When I heard his voice, I immediately looked that episode up and sure enough, I was right! :D

Oh and apparently he's done some other voice work for BioWare. He was in Jade Empire and Mass Effect 2.

How are the Legacy of Kain games? I remember playing the demo of the first one years ago and liking it - it has vampires in it, and I love vampires -, but I never played the full game or the following games. Do you recommend them?
Talk to coffee? Even Gabriel isn't that addicted!

I would, but the storyline can be -- and often is -- very confusing. Part of the problem is that the story involves time travel, alternate realities and that the games themselves were NOT released in chronological order. The fact you can buy all of them at one time, without waiting for a new release, may make the story much easier to comprehend.

There's a lot of action in all five games, but the plot and storyline make it all worth it. Do expect to fight a lot (real-time, not turn-based like most BioWare games). In LoK1 the action tends to outweigh the story, but that changes in the next four games.

All of the LoK games were developed for the consoles. They were ported to Windows later on. I'd strongly recommend using a gamepad, such as the Logitech Dual Action Gamepad. You can buy it for $18.82 on Amazon.com, but I don't know what the price would be in Italy.

Buying the actual games might prove a challenge. eBay would be your best bet. Make absolutely sure the seller is offering the Windows version of each game. Considering some eBay sellers are less-than-honest (like the one Rudy mentioned who claimed the KQ7 disc was KQ1), you need to make sure they're not selling the console versions.

That's cool! I loved his work on Prince James!

I'm still not sure who is MacDougall. Initially I thought he was the black-haired fellow but after hearing Tom Kane as gatekeeper in Grim Fandango, I think he's the redhead.
So, now that you know what Simon Templeman sounds like, which one is it?

MacDougall is one of Prince James' men who croaked at the Devil's Arm Chair.

yeah, dear I've played GK3 about thirty times by now, but I don't know whether he voiced the guy who says "do you know which way they went?" or the guy who says "Prince James wanted to express his gratit-yood fer tracking the kidnappers".
The other is voiced by Tom Kane, who also did Jesus, but it's kinda hard to tell which voiced which.
