If you ever wanted to give some old browsers a try, head to site called Deja Vu. It has a web-based emulator that allows you to use old browsers, including Mosaic and the original Netscape!

The emulated browsers are mostly interactive (some more so than others). The hyperlinks work and you can even enter in current URLs. I tried looking at Google and the Sierra Help Pages in Mosaic. Google has some problems, but SHP came through just fine.

Give it a shot! If you didn't get online until the late 1990s or even early 2000s, you might be somewhat surprised (or horrified) to see what we had to use in the early days of the Internet.

I like the "Sorry, due to heavy load on the server, browsing is quite slow. On the positive side, it makes the experience even more authentic..." message . I guess the the images on SHP don't show up because most are PNGs. Also, the older browsers ignore the CSS. Still SHP is readable.

That error message is epic. I didn't get it - but whoever came up with that is awesome.

Oh, #deity# - a real trip down memory lane for me. I remember those days - I remember using Mosaic back in the day, as well as the gopher protocol and even the days of telnet.

Ok, I'm a real nerd, but I love nostalgic software. I'm using Virtual PC to emulate Windows 3.1, 98 and ME. And in those, I have them running older applications of IE and AOL. As well as some games that won't install in XP or newer OS's. I think I'm gonna install an older version of Netscape. Not quite as old as 2.0 though

Holy crap! My first website was on GeoCities in 1996. It looked like complete crap by today's standards, but back then, it was pretty cool (which doesn't really say a whole lot).

It's sad that some people still make websites that belong in the mid-to-late 90s. Usually small businesses who're too cheap to hire a designer, so they try doing it themselves or get the "kid down the street" to do it instead.

The best part of that GeoCitiesizer are the browser icons on the bottom. "Best viewed in Microsoft Internet Explorer!" "Try Netscape now!" The page counter gets a good laugh as well.
