Help installing Football Pro on new XP system?

Post by meade95 »

Hello, glad to have found this fourm. I am a long time fan of Sierra games and espeically the old Football Pro 97...

I had for a long time FBPRO installed on my Dell XP system (of about 8 years old). Installed it twice on there......however, that system has recently had a full crash....

And now when I go to install FBPRO 97 on to my new Dell XPS system or onto a XP laptop system...... It won't install. Simply "hangs" (does nothing) once I hit the set-up key for installation.

Now, I right click the compatibility mode (to Windows 95) before install. Yet, still no go.

Can't figure out why it won't work (unless the newer systems specs, speed, DX, etc are just too advanced for FBPRO to work??). I also believe my older system was an XP HOME EDTION....where as my new computers both have XP MEDIA EDITION??

Also, perhaps on the second time I needed to reinstall FBPRO...I think someone told me a trick of first copying the CD to a folder within my C: ....and then trying to install from there??

Any help / advice would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like this is one of the installers that has the "hidden setup" problem. Try this utility.

Answered you other post. No need to double post. It is just because new members' posts have to be approved before they show. This is a way to circumvent spambots.

Much appreciated! This has allowed me to install. Thanks.

Couple more questions / problems.

Does anyone know where / what I have to edit in order for me to NOT have to have the CD in...while playing? I though prior it was just doing the FULL INSTALL was the trick....but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I am not as familiar with the sports games as the adventures, But I'll have a look when I get home. It may be hard coded into the EXE.

Update.....The NO CD Messages is popping up at the start and end of each game - However, if I just click "continue" the game proceeds like normal.

So, it seems on the whole to be working okay...just somewhat of a nusiance for the "no cd" pop up message to come up so often.

Any tips on making it stop would again be appreciated by anyone who knows.

Thanks
