Help needed for LSL for Windows 7 x64

Hi, I don't know if this is a good forum to ask since this is mostly the older versions of LSL, but I've been going through some older games lately and I'm having trouble running Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude on Windows 7 64-bit. It will load and run, but once the game gets going it's a jittery mess with the camera, its like the camera goes behind in game objects and the screen just fills with those textures, be in a wall, sky, or whatever. I'm using my onboard video, which is an Intel GMA 3100, which has no problems running games from this time (GTA series works perfectly find for example.) The graphics of the game are otherwise fine without this texture problem.

Can't really find any answer through Google, although I did find this great program from a few years back called 3D-Analyze that lets you emulate GPU functions through the CPU, that I just used to make Prince of Persia: Sands of Time work on my PC that I just bought from Direct 2 Drive. Here's a good thread I found on it for anyone who wants to use it, regarding compatibility of Intel graphics and using this program:

Anyway, this forum is the closest I could come to an active community about Sierra games. It's a lonely ghost town out there with some of these games, kinda difficult to find an answer to these problems. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I am afraid that I can't be of much help with this game. I don't know if anyone can help on the forums for Activision, who is, unfortunately, the inheritor of Sierra's IP. The best that I can suggest is the usual things of playing around with compatibility settings, acceleration, etc. If the version of Win7 that you have is Pro or ultimate you could try XP Mode, but I would be surprised if it worked since the Virtual PC used for XP Mode lacks things like Direct3-D. If worse comes to worse you can try VMware with XP loaded into it.

Thanks for the response. I have it in XP compatibility mode, but that doesn't seem to make a difference. I think you are referring to the Virtual XP thing though, which I haven't downloaded but may give it a try.

I can't really really tell if it's a compatibility issue or not, or just an issue with the Intel on board graphics causing glitches with the textures appearing in front of the camera in certain places. I am guessing the latter since I get a transform and lighting graphics not supported by graphics card pop up when I start the game, but it runs fine. Although I've looked at GameFAQs and the few old posts there there were a couple with the same problems as me, without a response.

With this old of a game that wasn't that popular to begin with, and no second life as a Steam or downloadable title, I guess it's pretty impossible to find any sort of answer if you can't find an old post on Google. I just took a shot in the dark if someone here has played the game and had the same issues and knew a fix.

I actually had the same problem with the game when I ran it on Vista 32 bit. The textures/graphics were all messed up. Found out my integrated graphics card was the problem. It lacked the ability to do the Hardware Transform and Lighting effects needed for the game to work properly. I went out and bought a new graphics card, and the game worked fine.
