Moments in Sierra games that made *you* cry!

Ah, the good ol' emotional twinge. ;) I know that guys aren't supposed to cry (bah! dratted old-fashioned cliches! :P), but nevertheless - what are some of the moments in Sierra games that made you, the home viewer, have a good cry (or at least get a lump in your throat) and generally look like this guy? ;)

I have to 'fess up - Toby's sacrifice for Tanya does it for me. You can't deny, it's a powerful moment.

Wolfgang's sacrifice for Gabriel, and Gabe's recovery of the Schattenjager amulet, is similar - except it's more of a "What the hell...? Oh, this is so f***ed up" moment, the kind where you don't know if to choke up or to grind your teeth in fury.

OTOH - call me an old sentimentalist if you like, but Malia's sacrifice for Gabriel is definitely one of those weepy moments. :|

It's funny - most of these moments happen when some character sacrifices him/herself for another, but the big sacrifice scene at the end of QfG5 never affected me in that way. *shrug* I don't know why, it's a strange thing.

Name your 'favourite' weepy-moments! ;)

Those GK1 moments are all very powerful, but there's one you haven't mentioned yet that I'd like to stress: when Gabe talks to his father's grave. Especially in combination with Curry's background. I really had to choke away some tears the first time I heard that, even more than any other GK moment.
(Well, OK, the first time I got Gabe killed in GK3 was a bit of a shocker.)

And slaughtering Don at the Throne of Terror in Phantas.

And in Shivers, reading about how Elizabeth made Dr Windlenot give up contact with Geoffrey, and reading that letter how happy the doctor was when his son sought contact... and realizing that Geoffrey never knew about that...

And Trevor's death in Phantas 2. I love Trevor.

Have to agree with the Tanya and Toby scene from Quest for Glory IV.

I can remember crying watching my parents play King's Quest IV (I was about 3 years old) and it terrified me. I remember not even wanting to look at the disks. The good old days, I miss them.

Hmmm... I can't think of any game (Sierra or not) that's provoked an emotional response like sadness or crying. Happiness and definitely anger, but that's about it. :P

All of the GK and QfG moments mentioned definitely pulled some emotional strings but not enough to make a tear come to my eye. However, there have been a few movies that were real tear jerkers. Maybe it's because they're not real, physical humans playing the part?

One other moment worth mentioning is when Gabriel reads Grace's note at the end of GK3. It was more shock and pity than anything. :)

I've never cried to a computer game. At least I don't think I have. But when I was young I remember feeling a lot of emotion from certain GK1 scenes. It wasn't a sad or touching feeling it was just....powerful. I don't really know how to describe it.

Same here. It's like a very involved feeling. Almost like being in awe, even though the situation could be either happy, sad, or completely different. I get similar feelings from KQ6, especially during scenes inside the catacombs or in the Land of the Dead. And again throughout the GK series. I feel something, but I don't know what is it - it just hooks me. A powerful feeling, as MusicallyInspired put it.

When did that happen? I must have missed that... :| I never saw Gabe talking to his father's grave. But then again, I only played through GK1 and GK3; I never got further in GK2 than about the middle of act 4. :(

As for getting Gabe killed in GK3 - absolutely, spot on! That "Gabe screams and dies" moment was such a shocker for me that I had to turn the sound off, particularly when playing through the pendulum puzzle. Blergh... I got through that puzzle and went to bed, but couldn't get to sleep after that scream. :(

In GK1, go to the St. Louis Cemeterey #1 and talk to the graves on the left, in the second screen (the one before the Gedde tomb).

Moment with a Sierra game that made me cry?

After installing MOE and playing it... I pretty much cried in disappointment. Does that count?

LOL @Tawm!

I must replay that part in GK1 because I can't remember Gabriel talking to his father's grave.

Rath, you must replay GK2! We will definitely help you along the way. GK2 is one of Sierra's must-plays!

Since I was quite young and impressionable at the time, I remember getting a little teary when Edgar freed Rosella after she killed his mother in KQ4. I felt bad for him.

I tend to tear up at the drop of a hat, whether happy, sad, or even angry. Emotional moments in games that I specifically recall were the end of Phantasmagoria with Adrienne having to actually kill Don, Gabriel reading Grace's letter in GK3, the end of QfG4 when Erana dies. I'm a bit of a sucker for the tragically romantic. I also found Toby's sacrifice and Wolfgang's sacrifice both very touching. I hate it when characters have to do that in any game and I always feel like I should have been able to prevent it.

I know there are probably more than that, but I can't recall them off the top of my head, since it's been a while since I played each game. I guess the game designers did their jobs well if so many of us found those moments touching.

That's interesting... I never thought that Erana dies at the end of QfG4 - rather, that you release her spirit from the crystal. If you talk to the Burgomeister and ask him about the Dark One, or listen to Pyotr in the garden at night (paladins only!), - well, either of them will tell you that Erana sacrificed herself long ago to prevent Avoozl from breaking into the world.

In other words, by the time of QfG4, Erana is already dead, but her spirit is trapped in the crystal in the Dark One's cave, and all you can do is release her spirit.

(Phew! Lots of spoilers in this one!) ;)

In my books, that's more of a technicality and it doesn't affect the emotional impact of it. Basically, she visits the Hero a number of times in his dreams and they definitely have an emotional connection, then she's wrenched away at the end. She may as well have died then. I guess it depends on how you define death and whether it's tied to the physical body or the spirit moving on. Anyway however you want to define it, they had a connection that was "never to be", which always seemed rather tragic to me.

Too many spoiler tags are better than too few! ;)

Holy crap. All of those spoiler tags remind me of the Dragon Age thread! :P
