While the trailer is amusing -

I just won't even be risking it. Not after MCL.
In case you didn't know what they were mocking...

I'm not risking it either. Bargain bin? I just might. I do know they're trying to take LSL back to its roots (at least according to a few interviews I've read), but I just don't trust them any more.

I sort of did enjoy MCL in a similar way I enjoyed MOE. But I just don't like the look of this new one. They really didn't need to redesign Larry again.
And I can't figure out why they'd go the route of spoofing "Gears of War" in a game that supposedly spoofs movies. A better trailer might be Larry running through different movie sets. This one just seems weird and awkward.

See, where as I can try to tolerate MOE as it's own game - more of a
Heretic like game vs King's Quest - MCL I couldn't. I think because all of MCL's games seemed to rely on dexterity too much (and though I play video games - a lot - I don't have the super quick dexterity to keep making some little sperm swim). Nor could I tolerate the one girl you play quarters with - and her swearing - which was way over the top. I think that's my real issue with MCL. It was too much of a REAL adult game. Where as LSL from Al Lowe's era eluded to a lot - made little jokes and references - MCL did away with sublty and said, "In your face."
It was too much for me.
Al Lowe's comments -

Larry BOB (any relation to Microsoft Bob?!)
Which was the first thing that came to my mind when I heard, too.

I won't play it. Not in a million years.

I'm with you. I defended MCL before it came out - and was slapped in the face. Even though according to what they said "We want to make a game that Al Lowe would play" - Al said it best on his site - "Then let me design it."

It would be interesting to see what Al Lowe would come up with these days for Larry. The original games all played off his middle-age fantasies of going to fabulous resorts, casinos, cruises, and fighting international espionage Bogart-style. The newer games are meant to appeal to today's younger pop culture MTV crowd, meaning college, movies, Xbox games, reality shows, spring break, road trips, and all forms of tasteless R-rated comedy.
Not that Al Lowe wouldn't be able to handle it - I'd just like to see what kind of magic he works when he's asked to appeal to a demographic that's 40 years younger than he is.

I still have to play the classic LSL games (1-7) which I will sometime. So Im not going to touch any of the new LSL games unless its a fanmade remake or a new fanmade game entirely.

What I disliked most about LSL:MCL is that it was more of a rhythm game (like Dance Dance Revolution or even Guitar Hero) than an adventure game. I really like action-oriented games -- some of my favorite titles are flight simulators and FPS -- but just as I don't expect to deal with inventory puzzles in F.E.A.R., I don't want to put up with unnecessary action, especially the kind that involves mashing buttons, in an adventure game.
Plus, the humor was no longer witty. It had degenerated in crude, childish antics. There was even a "p0rn fairy" who used a dildo for a magic wand.

It was the degrading that really did it for me. The p0rn fairy didn't bother me one way or another. Al did a lot with a Dildo in LSL7. (Well he didn't do it personally... but you know what I mean...)

I think on the whole, I wasn't bothered too much by the game at all. I don't consider it a traditional Larry game or even a sequel, but the degraded humor reminded me more of modern teen movies like "American Pie" and the arcade gameplay was pretty creative in some places and not just restricted to regular boring conversations. I especially liked how they used the conversation system to pull off a musical number at one point.
I worked at a video store when the game came it, and it was a pretty big rental with the college crowd, so I'm guessing Vivendi nailed their target audience.
