First off, kudos for keeping these games alive, they are amazing.
With the upcoming release of silver lining I wanted to revisit kq6 which I have via the First KQ collection. I ran the exe at your help site for KQCollectorsEditionDisc2Setup.exe, and seemed to run fine. However when I run KQ6 with DOSBox, I'm not getting any speech. If I open the Settings page to push the Text button it says, This button is reserved for CD version of King's Quest VI. Umm, isn't that what I'm using? I'm confused.
Here is my resource.cfg:
videoDrv = VGA320.DRV
soundDrv = ADL.DRV
audioDrv = AUDBLAST.DRV
joyDrv = NO
kbdDrv = IBMKBD.DRV
mouseDrv = STDMOUSE.DRV
memoryDrv = ARM.DRV
minHunk = 207k
language = 1
cmd = kq6cd
sync = .\
audio = .\
audioSize = 8K
cd = YES
audio = .\
sync = .\
movieDir = .\seq
patchDir = .\
I'm hoping you have some idea whats going on, because when I explain my complicated setup to get this far, I think you'll say thats the real problem.
My setup is on Linux, I used Wine to run the installer, which was fine.
But running the Shortcuts you supply with your setup, do not work running from Wine which then launches DOSBox - I just get a black screen with horrible audio for the startup music(sierra logo and KQvi logo)
And running the windows version through Wine does not work at all.
So I installed a linux native DOSBox .74 and ran SIERRA.EXE through that, and that worked very well with everything working except the Speech. Is there something other than the RESOURCE.CFG that would tell SIERRA.EXE that it is indeed the CD version?
I hope you can help.
King's Quest VI from 1st Collection - no Speech
Re: King's Quest VI from 1st Collection - no Speech
Not all of the files got copied over, specifically KQ6CD. Your disc may be damaged. Check it for scratches, abrasions, cracks, etc. If the installer has trouble copying a file it will eventually skip it. You can try manually copying the file, but there may be other files that were missed, too. When did you download the installer? I just updated it to include a tool that will list all of the files. Look in the King's Quest Collector's Edition folder in the Sierra folder in the Start Menu for "Diagnostic Tool". Run it and select KQ6 and post the results here. If you do not see this tool, download the latest installer from http://www.sierrahelp.com/Patches-Updat ... s.html#KQC and reinstall it.

Re: King's Quest VI from 1st Collection - no Speech
hmm, I actually just ran the installer last night. I tried again just now to make sure, but i don't see a Diagnostic tool available.
In my files I do have a kq6cd file, and if I view it with a textpad, it just says
gh
ghj
does this sound right. its the exact same as on the cd though.
Any thoughts? I don't want to put too much work into this because I'm fine with Text only, just would kinda like the speech.

Re: King's Quest VI from 1st Collection - no Speech
sorry if this posts twice, but my previous response doesn't seem to be posting.
I used your installer just last night, and I tried reinstalling just now to double check, but I don't see the Diagnostic Tool you mention. Maybe because I only installed KQ6 and none of the others.
As for the KQ6CD file, it is in my install directory but when I viewed it with a Textpad, all it says is:
gh
ghj
however it is the exact same on the installer CD. Does this look right?
Anyway, I dont want to put too much time into this, since I'm ok with just using the Text version, it would just be nice to have the speech.
Thanks

That is the contents of the KQ6CD file. When did you download the installer and where did you download it from? The updated version has only been up in the last couple of days. When using one of the SHP installers, be sure to use the latest from the New Sierra Installers page on Sierra Help. I frequently update them to add features, fix reported errors and to add support for other versions. Download the latest KQ Collector's Edition here. Do a complete uninstall and reinstall with the latest installer into an new or at least empty folder. If the problem persists, run the Diagnostic Tool for the game and post the result here.

Re: King's Quest VI from 1st Collection - no Speech
Yeah makes sense, I am an admin on a forum and we got nailed with spam bots one month, lots of disgusting posts, I had to do all sorts of security enhancements and Captcha.
Anyway, that is the installer I used, not sure why I'm not getting the diagnostic tool, but at this point I'm not too worried about it. I'm just going to play the Text version.
But I wanted to say thanks a lot for you time trying to help me, and thanks a lot for trying to keep these games accessible because I would take a Sierra adventure over a $60 shootem up any day
Dont be surprised if I come back trying to get my QFG and Space Quest collections running again(used to have police quest collection too, but it got lost
)

Re: King's Quest VI from 1st Collection - no Speech
As I said, the new version has only been up the last day or two. Download it again.
As of phpBB 3.0.6 the newly registered users is a standard feature. It helps a lot. The only spambots that get through are the ones that register and then post something completely unrelated to the board. Two off topic first posts is usually enough to identify it as a bot.
As you may have noticed, there are new installers for those games, too. And by the way, welcome to the board. We have a small, but thriving community, here. All Sierra fans. It is more or less what is left over from the closure of the official boards.
