Strangeness with PQ2 (2006 collection) after patch

When running SIERRA.EXE, I am unable to exit the car successfully in the first scene. The game freezes with Sonny walking around above the Police Department. Running SIERRA.COM seems to resolve this problem, even though it re-enables the copy protection at the beginning. I'm not sure if the patch put SIERRA.EXE in the folder, or if it's part of the 2006 Police Quest Collection installation.

Anyone have the same problem?

Drop this in the game's folder, run it and post the results here.

This is Police Quest 2, installed via the 2006 Police Quest Collection, and then the 2006 Police Quest Collection patches have been applied. I do have a launch day copy of the collection.

Collector, I also noticed that the patcher apparently didn't like the version of Police Quest I (AGI) that I had it install as well. The autoexec in the dosbox.conf file it created pointed to a SIERRA.COM or EXE file (I can't remember which), whereas my Police Quest 4 Most Wanted that I installed the AGI version from had a PQ.COM file. An easy fix for me - I simply renamed it, but I did want to bring it to your attention.

I can see nothing missing, including the NRS patch. And I am unable to replicate the problem. You say that you applied something to get around the copy protection? That may be the source of the problem.

No, I didn't apply it. When I install the 2006 PQ Collection, it's not present in the PQ2 folder. It would seem there's something in your 2006 Collection Police Quest patch that was applied that did it.

A good test is to type gibberish for the copy protection test that comes up. If it accepts anything, then the copy protection crack has been executed, and that's when my problem crops up. If I run the SIERRA.COM that came with the 2006 PQ Collection, then the copy protection works as it should and the game works as it should.

As I said, I cannot duplicate this issue. The PQ collection patch has not been updated in in quite a while. It is on my very long to do list, so may take some time before I get to it. I would have thought all of the VU collection would have had the same versions of the games, but perhaps not. What version of PQ2 do you have?

The game reports it as 1.002.011. I just figured it to be part of the patch installer since the SIERRA.EXE that is being run (which gets past the copy protection) doesn't exist prior to installing the patch.

I haven't even looked at the script in quite a while. As I said, I'll be redoing it, but it will be some time before I get to it.

No problem at all. It's easy enough to work around. Just wanted to bring it to your attention in case it was something in the installer so that next time you have a chance you can take a look.
