The reason I'm on Arkenstone is because my brother is also there. Figured I'd just stay there. Is it possible to take your same character to another server?

Not that I am aware of. I just figured I would post it here to see if others were playing! I may make a character over on your server, and go there from time to time to see if you're around and just play the other server as my main server. :)

Lord of the Rings Online gets mention as one of the top games of the year (and one to look forward to!) from PC GAMER!

I knew I'd made a LotRo thread somewhere!

The last few months I've been VERY heavy into this again. Finished re-reading The Hobbit not long ago, now going through a re-read of Fellowship of the Ring. I forget how much I love these books and how distinctly different Tolkien's writing changes between The Hobbit and his later books!

Awhile ago, a bunch of servers were merged, and a lot of servers in other countries were taken down, and they were merged to US servers... so for example, now the server my character(s) are on is Brandywine, which also happens to be the primary server for Russian players.

There is a EU Server, but it's for subscribers only, because it's a specific type of server.

Anyway - here's some fun screenshots from the game...

Interesting. I'm surprised that they couldn't find a server closer to home for Russia. Like having a server for subscribers and non-subscribers in the EU.

I play Elder Scrolls Online. The only servers that I am aware of are the North American and EU.

It's probably because of the cost and volume of players.

I know, for example, EverQuest did something similar, when World of Warcraft pulled a MASSIVE population away from EverQuest.

They closed down a lot of their servers, and merged all these servers together.

That way, servers didn't feel like there was no one on.

And I imagine, cost of maintaining servers outside of the US (for Lord of the Rings Online, Standing Stone Games is not a HUGE company - and neither is Daybreak Games, EverQuest USED to be owned by SOE - Sony Online Entertainment, but they sold it off) is probably expensive.

World chat is definitely interesting at times, because it's a bunch of Russian text of people talking. And there's far more Russian people who know English than English people who know Russian - because a lot of Russian people will reply in English, saying they're from Russia and had to learn the English language to play the game.

I also realized I forgot to put the picture captions, scrolling up. lol

First one, there's shadow men grabbing my hobbit burglar in this quest... it's one where you're tracking down the Riders of the Enemy (the ol' Nazzy clan! :D ) - and the area is tainted... the shadow men very slowly drain you of life and energy and there's nothing you can do about it.

Second picture is when a bunch of players get together, and perform actual music in the game. They often have different bands competing.

Third and forth ones are what happens if your character gets intoxicated.

Fifth one, I sent to my friend Poppy.

The rainbow ones were to show what they do sometimes, after it storms - they will actually set up a rainbow to appear. Very nice touch.

Next one is a guy who gives you a fun (depending on the class you're playing) to find out where Bilbo has disappeared to.

Next one is a cool scene of a cave troll turned to stone because a crack in the cave ceiling.

The rest are just pretty scenery of when I was riding around.

Was on reddit and found someone made the attached map...

And then made this incredible site - you can zoom in and see where NPCs are in the game - this (just now) was a life saver, because I was going in circles trying to find someone - but they were inside a passage that wasn't accessible before (I had just finished another quest, that I didn't realize opened that door).

I just have to say: yikes. :shock: For years and years, I've been meaning to try LOTRO. Why?

1. I've read the LOTR books back to front several times;
2. I also read (and like very much) the LOTR mythos -- on a website called "The Encyclopedia of Arda" (very much recommended, by the way); :)
3. I read the Silmarillion, so I'm aware (perhaps somewhat dimly) of the history of the First and Second Ages;
4. I've listened to several radio dramatisations, all very good and very exciting;
5. I've played other LOTR games (e.g. Battle for Middle-Earth, Battle for Middle-Earth II, LOTR: War in the North, Shadow of Mordor);
6. And like many others, I like the movies (despite some reservations about them).

But the more I looked into it, the more locations (and expansions) I found, and the more discouraged I became.

Why discouraged? Because it seemed to me that LOTRO "world", unless I buy all the expansions, the "experience" of the game is not complete. :| Also, this game sounds like you need to put a lot of time into it (months? years? decades, even?), and I'm already nearly full stretched. :?

So ... just wondering. Is any of the above true in any way? Or am I simply assuming too much? :)

Thanks! :D
