i have a mac book pro that i just have install boot camp on with snow leopard and windows 7 ( i realize this is like asking for trouble) i currently am not using dos box because i never have i just installed and just dont know how to use it yet, the i have the kings quest collection installed and it seems to be running fine so far although this is preliminarly because of the many forseable bugs (ie firecracker bug and wooden nickel) except the intro video for kq7 will not play and this error message is displayed

error145: Avi set Palette Failed
i:\sys\sci\moview.cpp(207)
Script34/$15

the Avi's will play in file but will not play in the game loader, any help?

Please be aware that this site is in the process of being moved to a new server. I will respond after the move to avoid the post being lost, but I do have solutions for you. Please be patient.

With Windows 7 installed with Boot Camp you should have all of the same options available to you as a Windows only machine. The fix depends on which collection you have. If it is one of the older collections, just use the new installer for your collection from here. If it is the 2006 VU collection, use the updater after it is installed. That updater will also work for the Steam download version. GOG's King's Quest games should not need updating.

You have to browse to where you have the collection installed. On modern Windows it is best if older software is not installed in a system folder like the Program Files folder. These folders have restricted write access that can cause issues with these older games. Try installing the collection in a Sierra folder in the base of your C: drive, such as "C:\Sierra\King's Quest Collection" first and then apply the patch into the same folder.

That is what I did I created a new folder in the just the c: named Sierra and installed and when I try to apply the patch it tells me the collection is not located there, does the collection need to be taken out of it sub folders?

Does the "Sierra" folder have a "King's Quest Collection" folder inside of it?

No I just looked it seems to have just subfolders for each game, after I install the game into the c: Sierra folder should I then move the contents of that folder into a folder named kings quest collection?

Install it in a "King's Quest Collection" subfolder in the Sierra folder.

There are 2 ways you can get KQ8 MOE to run through Win 7. You can go to GOG.com and buy a KQ7 + KQ8 pack for just $10.00 bucks. They are configured to run on Win7. So all you have to do is install it and run. No setup is necessary after that.

Or you can go to this page

http://www.sierrahelp.com/Patches-Updat ... llers.html

Scroll down until you see an installer for King's Quest: Mask Of Eternity. Download it and use that to install MOE. Also make sure to install the Glide Wrapper that comes with his installer.

Of course, I personally recommend using Collectors installer. But at least you have some options.

A glide wrapper essentially allows you to have more control of video options. Usually needed for older games that used video cards that don't exist today. Or are incompatible with modern drivers. For MOE, it allows you to have access to the 3DFX graphics options when you go to configure your graphics within the game.
