New Installers

Post by Collector »

I have made new installers for the Mission Builder expansion for Red Baron, Sorcerian, Thexder, Firehawk and Thexder for Windows 95. Thexder 95 is a 32-bit Windows games, but came with a 16-bit installer that only installs a shortcut to play it off the CD. This SHP installer will work on 64-bit Windows and installs the entire game to the hard drive for CD-less play.

You can find them on the SHP New Installer Page.

I also updated the Red Baron installer to add support for the floppy VGA version of the game. This one was a little bit of a guessing game. There was no easy way to distinguish between the EGA and VGA version, since most of the Dynamix games embedded the drivers. My copy of the EGA version came on 5.25" disks and the VGA from 3.5", so I couldn't easily distinguish between EGA and VGA resources from the installer. The only file I could distinguish between the two was the INSTALL.COM by the MD5. If Dynamix released other versions of this file for RB, the installer may fail to copy the right config file. If this happens, run INSTALL.COM in DOSBox to select the right graphics setting for your version and report it here so I can add support for your version.

Make sure you are downloading directly from the installer page. If you still have problems, make sure you are not using any proxies. You can also try turning off any download managers. If all else fails, try a different browser.

I don't know if anyone will see this message but I'm posting in the most appropriate place I can find.

Spurred on by the news of the remake I thought I'd re-install GK1 from my original CD-ROM copy (that I've had for years). I've hunted out the SierraHelp pages (that I remember using before to great success) and have tried to download the GK1 installer but it's sadly vanished! :(

Can anyone help me obtain GK1ForDOSBox.exe at all? I'd be eternally grateful to be able to play this classic again without buying it again (as money is tighter than I'd wish).

I hope someone can help.
