Phrases you hate

We've all heard catch phrases that've been overused or simply sound stupid. I know I have and they really piss me off.

Here's one that I hate: "Off the grid." The first time I heard that phrase was in Terminator 2, which at that time seemed cool (especially considering the movie's subject matter and John Connor's needing to hide). But now you heard it everywhere as if it's "cool" to say or something.

Can't say I hear that much? Unless discussing someone who has no bills or no way to track them, intentionally, by some government based paranoia...

I can't think of any, off hand that I hate... but I am sure there's those trendy pop lingo words that just drive me up the wall... I am just too tired to think of them at the moment.

I can't stand any line that reminds me of an annoying song. Such as "truthfully", "I confess I believe".

That, and when a guy says about his girl and him: "We're pregnant".

"It is what it is". Drives me nuts.

I've only heard of "off the grid" as in eliminating dependence on electricity and using alternate energy.

I don't like, "to be honest" and when someone apologizes when unnecessary. Like, "I'm sorry but I'm not going to the party." or something like that.

Where shall I begin? ;)

"At the end of the day"
"Business is business"
"Let me be absolutely frank with you"
"What can I say?"
"Going forward"
"The terrorists have won!!!"

...there's lots more that I really hate. Cliches everywhere. :P

I dread how much Larry and I have in common.
I should have seen the signs the day I ended up in InterAction with my photo used for the "Submit your Larry Look alike" contest...

I have a list

Note that some of these expressions perhaps don't translate well in Englsh. Feel free to ask for an explanation :)
*"Well, that's your opinion" (no comments)
*"Suicide is a selfish/cowardish act" (oxymoron)
*"I am against labels" or "don't use labels" [eg. give a name to some category of people, emotion, condition or genre] (words are used to describe and communicate meanings. Since I am no telepathic I need labels)
*"We all are responsible" (I believe that lay responsibility is accountable only in small communities. In big states there is no "we"; the elected and qualified are responsible)
*"Calm down, please" "I AM CALM!!" (no comments)
*"There is no 'can't', there is only 'won't'" or "you don't try enough" (I believe that a man has to know his limitations. The belief that an individual can achieve anything is self-help/New Age cr*p)
*"Would you jump through a window too?" (there is a big difference between the mistake I just did and jumping through a window or over a cliff)
*"Well, it's his choice and not your business" ('choice' does not equal 'mature and responsible choice')

*reads Rakeesh's list; siiiiiiiiiiiiiigh.....* I hate those too. I particularly hate "There is no can't, there's only won't" - my boss is like that sometimes. :(

LOL! That reminds me of a scene from Blackadder...
Blackadder said wrote: Blackadder: Well Baldrick, I have to say I'll miss your friendly, open companionship.

Baldrick: Aw, thank you, Mr B.

Blackadder: But as we both know, that would be an utter lie. So I will confine myself to saying instead, sod off - and if I ever meet you again, it'll be a billion years too soon. *leaves*

Baldrick: Goodbye, you big-nosed, rubbery-faced bastard. *Blackadder re-enters*

Blackadder: I fear you shall soon have to eat those badly chosen words, Baldrick. I wouldn't bet you a single groat you could survive 5 minutes without me.

Baldrick: Oh, come on, Mr B! It's not as if we're going to get slaughtered or anything the moment you leave, is it?

Blackadder: Hope springs eternal, Baldrick. *leaves*

Just how is that an oxymoron?
