Running the installer program, after disk 5, which is the last disk, it asked me for disk 6.
What's up with that?

There's the problem then. I now see that my game "A puzzle of flesh" must be, what is known as Phantasmagoria II, even though there is no indication on the set that it is the second in the series.
I thank you both for your help.

The first game is titled just Phantasmagoria. Phantasmagoria: A puzzle of Flesh is the second game to bear the name Phantasmagoria, even though the second is not really related in anyway to the first. A puzzle of Flesh is almost universally referred to as either Phantasmagoria 2 or A puzzle of Flesh, never just Phantasmagoria, which is reserved for the first (and superior) game. You are right that the 2nd game only has 5 discs.

So it sounds like you may have tried the wrong installer.

I will also email him to let him know, in case he doesn't pop back and see this.

The installer page includes A Puzzle of Flesh in the entry for the installer.
SHP New Installers Page wrote:Phantasmagoria 2: A Puzzle of Flesh for DOSBox - This installer also makes use of Enrico Rolfi's (Endroz) UniSCI tool (to enable CD-less play). See this thread for more information. You can also try another DOSBox installer by HarroSIN - This non-SHP installer was developed by HarroSIN, a member of the SHP forums. This installer will add a DOS interpreter this Windows only game and set it up to run in DOSBox. To install the Windows version, go to SquirtTheCat for a new XP/Vista installer by jafa (Note: both the HarroSIN and STC installers require the CDs to play.

Yeah, but unless your installer for Phant2 is broken - if it asked for a disc 6, it must have been the original Phant installer he was using. (I assume the link is correct for both installers? Like the Phant2 link doesn't lead to the Phant1 install?)

In any case, I emailed him to let him know. Would rather he come back and try the PHANT2 installer, if he accidentally only grabbed the PHANT1 installer, so that he gets his game working and doesn't think something's amiss with his actual game.

No, the links are right. I just noticed that the ID files both installers use to identify which number of the disc is in the drive are named the same for both games, so they would not know that the wrong game was being installed. Of course there would have been many copy failed error messages if he had reading the output of the installer. Perhaps I need to find a file unique to each game to ID disc 1 for both installers.

Long time no post for me (resident Phantasmagoria 2 nerd), but I've just begun recently working on an updated copy of my installer. The newer version will allow for a hard drive installation and disc-less play. It's still based on the more reliable DOS release of the game, so it will still utilize DOSBox: the latest build, of course, will be able to take advantage of hardware acceleration, OpenGL, and the ability to play in fullscreen or widescreen in addition to removing the scanlines during FMV cutscenes. I've also tested this out on my local FreeBSD server, so if I'm up to it (and I will be), I'll see about porting the installer to Mac OS X and Linux/*nix.

My recent surge of re-interest in Phan2 came after messaging the game's music composer, Gary Spinrad, on Facebook and asking him if he had a high quality version of the game's vocal theme, "Rage!" He gladly sent me a nice 320 kbps MP3; if anybody would like a copy, just ask.

Interesting. What did you do to deal with the scan lines?
