Conquests of camelot

Feel like your conquest has you questing in circles? This is for the Cristy Marx games, Conquests of Camelot: The Search for the Grail and Conquests of the Longbow: The Legend of Robin Hood. You can ask for help with these games here! (Beware of the rabbit... it's got fangs!)

Conquests of camelot

Post by madwill »

Hi 8-)

I have Conquests of the Longbow working perfectly with the latest "installer for XP" but unfortunately not Conquests of Camelot.

The Camelot game appears to install fine with both good graphics and sound.
But I don't get the "select an icon" bar. The one that normally shows up if the cursor is taken to the top of the screen.
So I can't "look" or "take" - and I don't have the "inventory satchel" or any of the other icons that normally show up along that bar.

I tried right clicking the mouse to see if I could cycle through the icons that way but they aren't there.
[I get a description if I right click directly on a specific item but that's all.]

Hope someone can help me out, please ??

Thanks.

Have you tried one of Collector's excellent installers found here ... http://www.sierrahelp.com/Patches-Updat ... ml#Camelot

Hi Oldbie 8-)

Yes, I have. But unfortunately it didn't solve the problem.

Thanks for your reply though.

The installer should have installed a diagnostic tool in the installed folder. Run it and post the results here. When Collector stops by he should be able to help you. It may just be that you have a different version of the game than the one the installer was written for.

Wasn't Conquest of Camelot an early SCI typing game - like King's Quest 4 - as you start to type a box appears for your command. I'm pretty sure it wasn't an icon game - at least not the version I played with many years ago.

Yep. SCI0.

None of the 16-colors adventures have icons. They all rely on typed commands

TAB will bring up your inventory. Other than that you have to type everything you want to do. You'll probably have better luck (and more of an investment to the furtherance of your sanity) by using the arrow keys to walk around rather than the mouse cursor because that was before Sierra developed the pathfinding code into their interpreters. So walking around with the cursor won't make your character detour and avoid obstacles like in VGA games, he'll just walk towards the spot you clicked on and stop short if anything is in the way. Right-clicking is a nice easy way to look at things, though, to find out if they indeed can be looked at or if you just don't know the name of something to type into the parser!

Thank you all for your replies !! 8-)

I resolved the problem this morning - by obtaining a manual - wherein, of course, I discovered that there isn't an Icon Bar and that I have to type in my commands.

So the game WAS working correctly all the time and it was me that was being inadequate

[I have many oldies in my game collection, which I re-play in turn, and so I get to know the foibles of each. But these two "Conquests" games are new acquisitions and I needed some help.]

I am most grateful to you all !!

Thanks.

Congrats :) CoC has been one of my favorite Sierra games.

If you feel so, I suggest you browse the Conquests wiki as a companion with a lot of hints, trivia, mistakes and other information. It contains spoilers so perhaps you should check it later

EDIT: Fixed your link. No "" marks in the URL command. - Tawmis ;)
