Nice article and pretty up-to-date too.
My one issue is that whoever was taking the screen shots of older Sierra games used a setting in DOSBox or ScummVM to smooth out the graphics. While it doesn't look bad, it gives a false impression of the original graphics.
It's interesting that more gamers want stories in their games nowadays. It's even hard to find an FPS without a story (granted, most aren't as good as Adventure or RPGs), but the whole "shoot everything that moves for the sake of it" concept has mostly fallen by the wayside.
I think Half-Life helped bring about that change. It's story is very basic compared to modern FPS titles, but it changed the genre. Before Half-Life, the average FPS story was generally "find the key" or something similar.
