Speed problems with German disk version of Freddy Pharkas

Hi folks,

I'm not sure if anybody can help me to solve this problem. I am preparing to Let's Play the game with a few friends and thus want to play through it at least once to know what to do when.

The problem is: At the beginning of chapter 2 when I have to mix up the potion for the horses, the game always let's Freddy and everyone else die. I do it as fast as I can, DOSBox CPU cycles as far down as possible (2000), but still - just before I am able to pour the medicine into the drinking trough, everybody's dead and Whittling Willy tells the heartbreaking story.

I watched densmings part of his Let's Play Freddy (US version), he's a lot slower than I am and still makes it.

Is there any way around this? And are there probably more bugs like this in the game?

Thanks for letting me know.

How are you setting the cycles? If by the conf file, post the contents here. If you used the SHP installer, just run the diagnostic tool and attach the result here.

Would the SHP installer work with theirs, since theirs is the German version?

I missed that in the title. I don't know if it would. If it has the same layout, then yes, even if the files themselves were different. The installer only deals with file names, not file content.

I got around the problem turning the CPU cycles really low (below 1500) just before I started the mixing procedure. I saved the game, went through the spectometric scene, then loaded the old gamesave and mixed the stuff, rushed out and poured it in the trough. This worked. Maybe not the best way, but I was glad to be able to continue :-)
