Any 3-D Ultra fans?

I have started to take a look at the 3-D Ultra games. Some of these have installers that have problems on modern systems.
3-D Ultra Pinball 2: Creep Night's installer crashes on Windows XP and is also a 16-bit installer, so it will not even run at all on a 64-bit system. I am pleased to present the new SHP installer for
3-D Ultra Pinball 2: Creep Night. It is a full HDD installer fro CD-less play.

If you have Creep Night, please give it a try and let me know how it goes for you.

I have most of them, the Pinball games, Minigolf, Traintown, Cool Pool and such. Haven't yet spent much time on them though.

Could you give this installer a try to see if it works OK for you?

I got a Pinball game, and I'll install it as soon as I'm done with UAKM.

Yep, it works. I actually used it on the UK edition of the game. Full screen, full sound, no problems. Can somebody else try it out on the US edition, otherwise i'll have to remove the shrinkwrap of my copy.

I have all of the pinball games, and the 3-D minigolf game as well, and will try this out in the next few days (weekend maybe). This is great! Thank you.

I got a chance to track down my Creep Night disc and install it with the new installer. The shortcut created by the installer in not functional (asks for CD -- even if inserted, it does not recognize it), but when I used the "exe" file found in the UPBALL2 folder, everything seemed to play very smoothly. Thank you very much, and I look foward to your future installers.

The game need an entry in the SIERRA.INI in the Windows folder of the exact CD path to the UPBALL2 subfolder. This path cannot have any long file names with spaces in it. The installer uses a small VB script to get the DOS path to this folder. If you do not have permissions to write to the Windows directory, the SIERRA.INI may not get written. The installer is set to run with elevated privileges, but I suppose that it could still be an issue. AV software might also prevent the VB script from running so the installer is unable to determine the DOS path to the installed folder.
Check to see if the SIERRA.INI in your Windows directory and if it is, do you see an entry for [UPBALL2]. What are the InstallPath= and CDPath= entries?

Here is the applicable entries in the sierra configuration file:
[UPBALL2]
InstallPath=C:\Dynamix\3DULTR~1
CDPath=C:\Dynamix\3DULTR~1\UPBALL2
If I had to guess just from looking at this, I would say that the "1" should be a "2". But I tried to edit this after reading your message, and got the same result.

Unless you already had another folder in the Dynamix folder with the same first 6 characters first, the number would be 1. The number is assigned in order of creation. DOS names are limited to eight characters with a 3 character extension. Spaces are disallowed. Long file names remove these limitations, but still have a 8.3 version so as to be readable by DOS. When working within Windows since Win95, these DOS names are auto generated. It starts with the first 6 DOS legal (no spaces) characters, a tilde ("~") and a number, starting with "1" in order of creation.
If the Dynamix folder had a, say "3D Ultra Pinball 3" folder in it first and then a "3D Ultra Pinball 1" folder was later created, the Pinball 3 folder would get "C:\Dynamix\3DULTR~1" and the Pinball 1 would be assigned "C:\Dynamix\3DULTR~2". This would be followed by no more than a 3 character extension, so ".html" would become ".htm", i.e. MyPage.html becomes MYPAGE~1.HTM.
Run the diagnostic tool and attach the results here.

The executable is PINBALL2, not UPBALL2 (at least in case of the UK release)

So is the American, but the subfolder that the game looks for that has the CD data is UPBALL2.
