All I have is the original. I don't know what differences there may be. If I get a chance, I'll try to take a look. If dotkel50 sees this, she may have tried it on Vista and have some advice.

I have both the original version and the Pharaoh Gold SoldOut version. I got it running but I don't remember if I got it running on Vista, or on my old XP machine. I don't have Win7. I will look for the SoldOut version and see if I can get it going on Vista, it may help you figure out what's wrong. I have a niggling thought that you have to run the installer in Windows 2000 compatibility mode. Try that.

I just tried it on my Win7 64. The setup hung for a moment or two, but then installed without issue. I can't say what might have been changed for your version, if anything.

I just installed and ran the Soldout version without a problem except for no sound in Pharaoh. This was fixed after installing Cleopatra though. I have windows Vista 64. The Soldout website claims that Pharaoh Gold doesn't work on Vista or Win7. This is clearly wrong for Vista.Collector, Soldout Software uses their own installers for all their games..

I don't have any sold out games so I can't investigate. Ironic that the older, original installers work and the new ones don't. Anything sold new today should be Vista/Win7 compatible. Can you tell if they are InstallShield installers?

The patches use the Wise install wizard but it looks like the games themselves use the Sierra installers after you click on a few Soldout screens.

Perhaps just a frontend or launcher that invokes the Sierra installer so they can "brand" it their own. Is there another EXE in the root of the CD that might be the original installer renamed?

There's a SetupNow.exe which is the SoldOut file and there's a Setup.exe which is an InstallShield setup program.

And the SetupNow.exe is probably the one in the Autorun.inf. Perhaps his fix is to install from Setup.exe from the CD, not from the Autorun program. That is if he is still around.

I just checked the autorun.inf and you're right.

He may have been setting compatibility on the Sierra installer, but if he was starting from the Autorun, it did no good with the SetupNow.exe.

Did you try Setup.exe instead of SetupNow.exe?
