These were designed for the 2006 VU releases, but it reportedly works with the steam version, too.

I tried that but it says it can't find the collection I think its because the properties say its a URL that is connected to steam rather then a full download(i might be wrong and if someone can correct me please do)

Will Steam let you do a full download?

There are Steam users here that should know. My guess is yes, since I know that my patches have been applied to the Steam versions.

Steam automatically updates and patches any game you've installed through it. You can tell Steam to not do it (although it doesn't always listen, particularly when it comes to games that use Valve's own Source engine), but the default setting is to auto-update.
Sometimes you can apply non-Steam authenticated patches as well. Usually this is due to the patch not being available on Steam (which is rare, but has happened) or a patch created through a community effort.
Icyevilchief, I'm not quite sure I understand your problem. Is the collection not downloading correctly? What was that about a connecting URL?
I'll be honest and say I haven't played the Sierra game collections on Steam, although my wife and I do own them on a Steam account we both use for Adventure games. I could always check to see if I have similar issues, but in order for me to do that, I need to understand what you're asking.

the problem is that when i try to use the patch that Collector posted it ask's for the location of the space quest collection but all the folders i tried said it didn't exist so i tried to find the source folder by checking the properties of the space quest collection and under file type it says its a URL and i'm not sure where to look so that i can apply the patch because it needs the install of the collection but it doesn't seem to be in my steam folder where i think it should be

It should be (if I'm not mistaken) in your "Steam\steamapps\common" folder and then inside another folder for whatever the game is called (I don't have any Sierra collections on Steam either so I'm not sure what the folder would be named). All the files should be there. Steam does not stream content from the internet it downloads everything you need to play.

Try moving the folder outside of the %ProgramFiles% folder.
