Anyone interested and/or want an invite?
PM your email address if it's different than the one you used for the forum.

It's still in beta. It needs a lot of work. It's basically Google's answer to "Facebook." But nowhere near as smooth as Facebook. But then again, it's still in beta...
So if you want an invite, lemme know.

What can you do with it that you can't do with the SHP Forums or Facebook?

It's pretty much google's answer to Facebook. So it does pretty much everything FB can.

I suppose the real question is this: does Google+ have better privacy options and does it allow third-party apps to gain information about users?

There are no 3rd Party Apps yet. It's pretty much the ability to post (like Facebook), Share Photos, Videos. And when you have Google+ and use Google.com to search - a "+1" that appears on your feed if you click the "+1" as a way of sharing links you think are cool, nifty, neat, whatever.
One feature I do like - they have "Circles" (Family, Friends, Acquaintance, and you can create circles too) - and so when you post, you can specify what groups see your posts. So if you want only family to see it, you post and select Family from the drop down - and only family members you have in that "Circle" will see the post. There's also an option for public, where anyone can see it.

I figured Facebook had that too with its "networks." I seem to remember being able to post something only a specific group of people could see. That was a couple FB facelifts ago, though (no pun intended). If it gets going good I might abandon Facebook in favour of it, what with all the hoopla surrounding FB's privacy issues and such...

If it takes off and my Facebook suddenly becomes deserted, I might join. But I'm in no rush to run off, rebuild my contact list, re-do my profile and re-tag my photo albums just to do the same thing I already can on Facebook. Even it's minus the apps and ads, I doubt it will stay that way for long.

Wouldn't you need one that does the opposite? Upload photos to Picasa from Facebook?
