Sierra Poll: Early AGI Era

I'll start it. We'll go through each era of Sierra's games for each poll. First up, AGI games. I was going to do pre-AGI games but I've never played any of them through to completion and I doubt many others of us have either. If we want to do a pre-AGI poll I'll make one after. It just doesn't make sense right now. I'm not including KQ4 even though it had an AGI port, because it was meant to be an SCI game so I'll include it in that era. Other than that, I think I've got all the AGI games covered.
At the end of each era's polls I'll take the winners and make a new poll and pit them against each other for a sort of poll on the best game from each era to see which era "was the best". Obviously that's kind of unfair and not really accurate, but even so it'll be fun and entertaining.
I'm going to go with Space Quest I.

Of the ones listed, I have to go with Gold Rush!
This game was amazing on all kinds of different levels. I thought it had a great story. It was like a modernized Oregon Trail kind of game. Except, you had three different ways you could go; and depending on which one you picked to go on, you'd need different things for that journey. This increased the playability more than any of the other Sierra games, to see new areas, that were, otherwise completely inaccessible unless you took that specific path.
It also felt like a very huge game!

I'm going to jump on the Gold Rush bandwagon too. Now that I think about it, it was an INCREDIBLY huge game! Even the first town alone gave me hours of exploration and interaction, and that was before I even picked one of the three journeys to California. And once there, you have possibly the biggest open-world environment ever put it into an adventure game.
On top of that, it was both educational and funny, had some pretty amazing graphics, tons of optional puzzles and side-quests, and actually told a decent story.

Agree, Datadog.
I think the other three who have already voted (and didn't vote for
Gold Rush!, clearly didn't play the game!)

I voted for PQ1. That was the first game I actually completed myself. I think I was eight or so. Looking back, that probably wasn't the best game to play as a little kid, but I beat it with a full score.

There is really no question. Gold Rush is the best game of the bunch. It had a gripping, realistic coming-of-age story whose scope still amazes me, three different paths to reach the conclusion, a superior writing that shines both when it recounts historical fatcs and when it describes the various locales Jerrod finds himself in and a gameplay that - while undeniably hard and punishing - still feels real. And this is the only game of this era that actually came close to making me cry -- during the Cape Horn route, if I'm not mistaken. There's a young guy on the ship to whom you can talk to and Jerrod became his friend. It's just a snippet, mind you. As a character, he only has few lines. Still, when he dies during the route I was shacken. Really shacked.

I've played Gold Rush! and it was a great experience. It was also one of the last AGI games Sierra ever made (either that or Manhunter 2). Brilliant game, but my funnest experience still comes from Space Quest.

Sorry. I played it as a kid and hated all the death in it: it really scared me to hear the sad Oh Suzanna all the time, visit the cemetery and oh: the continuous possibility to get yourself killed, such as getting run over by a carriage or hung by a gold hunter who was barely visible on screen. And the eternal infernal "You're not close enough". I never finished it, but I did get far. Of course I didn't read the text very much on account of my English not being good enough.
Nah, I voted Larry. I'm still discovering things in LSL1, and somehow every new thing I stumble upon is funny. And I loved it even at the tender age of 10, though I didn't understand too much.

Getting hanged was the best part! As a kid, me and my brothers used to laugh up a riot coming up with last words for Jerrod to say.

Of all the games, I am surprised to see LSL take the lead! I figured it'd be Gold Rush or KQ/SQ!
Go Larry!

Unless someone else comes along with another vote, Larry wins! Next poll:
