The Hero Stuff

Just to opine about the hero . Hes pretty goodie and sacrificial and all that . But I really don't like the QFG3 solution . I mean , the Hero made friends with Yesufu . The solution should have been to help Yesufu wed his Leopard love rather than marrying her himself. Thats what a real friend'd do right ?
And , I think the series is a bit unfair to the thief . The Fighter gets to go Paladin , and Magic User the Wizard , by the second game . No tests and initiation for the Thief either . Now , a burglary tournament would have been lovely . The Thief remains a plain old thief until the very end when he may become a Chief Thief , which might be a bit boring ? Thats an improvement in status that might get him tied down to one place . And he is expected to get stuck with Nawar the Perv , of all the ladies he met .

I like the thief the best. He can get all skills and develop into a powerful melee character like the fighter and cast spells like a magic-user, which means he can choose three different ways to solve most puzzles. And he can access areas that other classes can't. Plus, he has an easier time making money.

I like the thief too . But I usually prefer playing pure characters . No hybrids .

With QFG, I can't say I ever had a preference. Other than always starting with a Fighter, so I get a feel for the game (since they're more hearty). I have found combat with the other classes was typically more difficult, however.

A lot of people prefer the thief because of all the additional side-quests he gets (except in QFG3, of course.) I myself prefer the fighter just because the games feel more designed around his character (what with the whole "paladin" story arc.) Not to mention it's easier to level up the fighter with all the exercise he gets.
I always found the magic user is the most difficult character to play as, especially in the first game where I have to spend days fighting monsters, saving up money, and buying lots of mana potions so I can level up his magic skills just to solve basic puzzles. But it's worth it in later games when he becomes insanely over-powered.

I can't imagine playing QFG4 without magic. I think I'd always just sit back and launch spells. It was pretty easy. Paladin is the only class I haven't played as. I tried becoming a paladin properly by playing through QFG2, but I missed out on one of the requirements, and it was a timed thing, so my only option was to start over or replay a significant portion. I can't remember which, but it made me so mad that I gave up on that. I'm replaying QFG1 now. I'm switching back and forth between EGA and VGA because I can't decide which I like better. I'll probably end up playing the VGA version since I think it's the best VGA remake that Sierra did. Once I get to part 2, I'll try for paladin again.

I prefer fighter as well. A fighter with magic and thief skills can experience most (not all) of the side quests.

I don't think a Fighter can partake in the Thief side-quests if he wants to become a Paladin, though. I may be wrong about that since I never tried it, but it seems to me that stealing from most people would count as a dishonorable act.

Yeah. You can lose your paladin status if you steal stuff. But it doesn't hurt to be stealthy or acrobatic.

I actually like all 4 characters . They all have their unique advantages . But still , I can't help feeling the thief gets the worst deal in the end - Chief Thief and Nawar . And , I like the hero's costumes in the first and last games .

Well, it's certainly possible to become both King and Chief Thief, although that doesn't seem like it'd work too well. As for Nawar, you don't have to marry her. With the exception of Erana, I think it's possible to marry one of the other ladies (although Nawar does seem to be the woman "matched" up with the Thief character).
I liked all four classes. The Paladin was especially useful in QFG5, but was damn hard to acquire in QFG2. I don't think I ever managed it. Then again, some of the so-called honorable choices the Paladin is supposed to make seem stupid to me from a practical standpoint.
In QFG2, if you're a Paladin (or aiming to become one), you have to let Khaveen grab his sword after you've disarmed him. That wouldn't seem so bad if you weren't on a very time-sensitive mission to Ad Avis. If nothing else, I'd think making Ad Avis your first priority is the honorable solution, since you'd be choosing the lives of the many over the few, most of whom are probably decent people. Khaveen is not only assisting Ad Avis, but trying to kill you as well. I think outright killing him, whether or not he's currently armed, is justified given the circumstances.
I didn't usually mix classes, but I did once create a Fighter/Wizard. I basically thought of him as a Paladin without the honor requirements. He was certainly easier to play and more versatile than the Paladin, although not quite as powerful.

Yeah or , there could be an option to just stun him and run off , so he could continue the fight some other time .
Being King or not , the thief will only be Chief Thief . 'Chief' is such a boring term . The other Chief thieves shown are all old and cranky and boring . Besides, its just a post . Paladin and Wizard are permanent status , that comes with better skills and recognition from fellow practitioners . Now , Thief Prince or Marauder or Autolycus would've been cool . Also , I heard that in the scene the thief becomes chief , he'd be with Nawar even if he married someone else . Not that it all bothers a lot anyway .

Hmm. Not becoming Paladin in QfG2 isn't a huge problem, particularly since you can get it in later games if you import your character. (Sure, it's cheating, but so what).
I've never understood why being with Nawar is so bad for the thief. And what's so bad about being called "Chief Thief"? It rhymes, and that's pretty appropriate for the game's not-too-serious approach. It's also simple and memorable. For all those reasons, that's probably why that title was chosen.

I actually should replay QFG... Because I never got to be a Paladin. So I'd be curious what it's like...

The other brides are all ladies of such wonderfull strong characters who all played some important role in the series . They understand things higher than just flirting and chocolates . One might say the thief's girl ought to be more naughty and funny and less serious. But the thief himself inspite of being not so serious , is not as narrow minded and silly as Nawar . There could've been another female thief of importance in the story . Or , it could have been Zayishah . She has more mettle than Nawar . She managed to sneak away from Khaveen and Ad-avis . She disguised herself as a the Hero. More brains . More courage .
As for Chief Thief , I just feel a thief should be free of such obligations . After all , thiefs aren't really power hungry or like officials in general .
