Please buy my band's single!

Some of you may know that I'm in a group called EDIFY...most probably don't. It's a Christian music group of myself and a friend of mine. It's classified as hip-hop but we're always experimenting with other genres and blending things together. We're not typical (I wouldn't have it any other way!). So far we've been working with contemporary, metal, acoustic, pop, electronic, and other styles. Maybe we'll even do something with neo-classical and orchestral sometime. We've finally got our first single out the door called Superstar. It's already playing on a few radio stations in Canada and the US (and possibly the UK, I'm not sure). We've got a few shows lined up in Winnipeg in the next coming months if you're near. In January sometime we may be possibly opening for a group called FM Static which is made up of the same musicians and artists as the internationally known Christian rock band Thousand Foot Krutch so that's a pretty good break! And in November we're touring with a band called That Place in Ontario.

Come check us out! http://edifymusic.ca/ Even if you don't particularly care for the message or even for the style of music that's ok. You can set your own price! (with a minimum limit of 89 cents) And if you don't feel like shelling out your hard earned pennies, please spread the word about us if you may know of somebody who might be interested!

It's been a very long road getting this all together and moving forward. Originally we had a 7-piece band called The Free Agency which went nowhere for the longest time. Slowly everyone departed and it was just my friend and I left which is fine because we were already working closely together anyway. I'm the composer and guitarist for the group and my friend Alex is the lyricist and vocalist. We had a guest female vocalist on this particular song named Dee Liandra who did a simply phenomenal job. Our first album is coming out soon once we get the rest of the tracks done, but as of now enjoy Superstar!

Congrats, Brandon - good luck with that.
BTW - I never got the deal with christian rock. What does religion have to do with the musical genre? Rock whose lyrics deals with e.g politics is not called political rock. I also never heard of Islamic/Jewish rock either. I think that the lyrical topic and musical genre are orthogonal, but apparently Christian Rock is common. So what's up with that?

I think because rarely do you find a "Political Rock" band where 99% of their songs are indeed political. Christian Rock is usually all about God, Jesus, Savior, etc. Look at Stryper, as one of the biggest Christian Rock/Metal bands. Their first few albums, were all about Jesus. Even their ballads, while could be taken one way about a man singing to a woman, and finding true love; it is indeed, about a man, finding true love in God/Jesus. I think that's the difference as to why it's called Christian Rock. Because almost always, ALL of their songs are about the topic at hand. Where as political bands don't have all their songs dealing with politics.

And besides, Christian Rock gives it a brand that allows Christians, who may enjoy the "rock" sound and enjoy the music without fear of the "vile temptations" that other "rock" bands sing about (sex, drugs and rock and roll, type thing). It's very... type cast thinking, to some regard. But it's also a brand that says, "Hey, if you're a Christian and you enjoy the hard rock sounds - this music is safe for you!"

Or so I would think, anyway.

You didn't ask me, of course.

But as someone who has listened to Christian Rock/Metal with bands like Stryper, Chalice, Deliverance, Guardian, Barron Cross, Bloodgood, among many others, figured I'd throw in my (unasked for!) two cents.
