Gabriel Knight 2, GoG and the subtitles patch

Post by Ric-82 »

Hello everyone,

I've just bought Gabriel Knight 2 from GoG and, since I'm Italian, I really can use the subtitles patch.

Unfortunately, whenever I try to install the patch I got a message saying I must use the sierra help page installer, before.

As you understand, ther's no way to use that installer for a GoG game :|
I've tried to install the game using the original path (C:/Sierra/Gabriel Knight 2 instead of the GoG one) but it doesn't work.

Is there a way to use the subtitles patch with the GoG version of the game?

Thank you

You could try unpacking the installer and manually adding it to the game. I can't guarantee how well this may work.

Thanks for the advice!

Using the Universal Extractor I successfully managed to open the archive and copy/paste the files in the $INSTDIR\SUBPATCH directory into the C:\Sierra\Gabriel Knight 2\PATCH directory and it seems to work fine, so far!

I've checked briefly the First Chapter's movie and the first point-and-click game sequence: subititles are showing up and are well synchronized: I'll let you know if it last for thr whole game.

Thank you for your assistence.

Thank you so much for creating these subtitles and for figuring out how to install them manually in the GOG version of the game. Now I can go and really enjoy playing GK2 :).

Oh! First time!?!

Well, I would personally love to hear your point of view of the game when you're done! (Or even by the chapters!)

Sure, I'd be happy to! This is my first time playing the entire GK series; I enjoyed a lot reading over the playthrough you guys did a while ago for GK1. And moving from GK1 to GK2 was... well, there were a lot of changes to comment upon.

I don't know if it is ok to follow this discussion it in this thread, though?

You can make your own thread - or do it in here! Probably better in your own thread! (Besides if anyone says something - I will smack them for you!) :D
