Just got hit with the auto opt-in new Gmail look. It's atrocious. It looks like it was made for tablets and touch devices. There's SO MUCH WASTED SPACE! So much required scrolling! Immediately placed a feedback complaint.

EDIT: Just discovered the function to change the spacing! Exactly what I wanted! Now I got it looking pretty much exactly like it did before.

You can also revert back to the old look, at least for the time being. Even with fixing the poor spacing, things that were buttons are now just words and little visual distinction between different areas makes it so you have pay more attention attention to find what you are looking for. It is poorly designed.

And as I mentioned somewhere - at least last time I check - no way to customize the background.

I have the tree background, which I really like because it also changes with the local weather. It is nice to be able to keep track of the weather, even when you are not near where you can see.

I used to have Odin as my background. Made me smile whenever I checked email to see him there (especially while at work!)

I was using the space theme so I still have random space backgrounds for mine.

It seems like for me that what once used to be text buttons are now icon buttons. A bit of a change, but that bad for me. I haven't used it much yet, but so far it seems pretty straightforward. I bet that'll change, though, with enough use. The main thing for me, though, was the spacing issue.
