Skyrim CE: trying to justify my purchase

I just bought Skyrim Collector's Edition for $100, and I'm still trying to decide if it was worth it or not. I hope it comes with the faux-cloth map. I've been holding off buying Skyrim for a while, but I guess I have a minor dragon statue fetish. It wouldn't be so bad if Mass Effect 3 wasn't on the horizon, too. I don't know how I'll find time to actually play it with the billion other games I have to finish. I was going to hold off for Skyrim GOTY edition when it inevitably comes out, but I realized that Steam usually is good about having sales on DLC, so it probably won't be that big of a deal, as opposed to Bioware and their BS way of handling DLC with Bioware points that seem to never go on sale except when I'm not looking.

Sigh. I got Skyrim a few days after it came out... you're right, Skyrim GOTY will inevitably come out, and be much cheaper than buying the things individually too. I just like Viking architecture and Roman history far too much.

Well, my opinion is NO game is worth $100. I'm sure Rath feels the same, but Australians are usually ripped off, even more so than Canadians.
That said, most games will eventually have a GOTY edition or some collection involving all the DLC. It really comes down to how patient you are. If you can wait months or even years, then maybe you're better off getting the GOTY edition, since it'll have everything and be a better price. If you want the game now, then you'll just have to deal with having paid more now than you would later and buying the eventual DLC.
Maia and I've experienced this before, most recently with Deus Ex: Human Revolution. It was originally somewhere around $50 (maybe a little more, I don't quite remember) and since it's Steam activated, we needed two copies. Just this past weekend, DX:HR was on sale and the normal price is lower than we paid anyway.
But we enjoyed the game and we're fans of the series, so to us it was worth the cost. Should we have waited? Probably, but we didn't want to, so we just have to accept we'd pay more.
We've recently done the same with Mass Effect 3. That's coming out on March 6th and we pre-ordered two copies (partly because it has a co-op multiplayer game added in, but also ME3 needs EA's Origin to run) at full price. The upside is we get the game right away and get some pre-order exclusive items. The downside, naturally, is that if we had waited, we'd probably get it for a lower price at some point.

You're hooked on dragon statues too? I should post a photo of my collection. I came very close to buying Skyrim after seeing that dragon on the cover, until I realized I would only pay that kind of price for GK4.
Oh well, what's done is done. I once made the impulse of buying MusicMaker Studios. I haven't used it since I bought it, years ago. Should install it sometime. That's about the worst you can do with software that's really expensive; just neglect it and let it sit until it's too out of date to use.
