Age old LB2 problem...

Feeling like this game could be murder... literally? Well, come on in here for some extra detective work (and clues/hints/etc!) for the Laura Bow games (The Colonel's Bequest and The Dagger of Amon Ra).

Age old LB2 problem...

Post by sundaywriter »

Hello,

I was so excited to see that people still post in this forum, as it is the only remaining ray of light for me to get my classic Sierra games to work... specifically, LB1 and 2.

I downloaded the DOSBox for Windows and actually got LB1 to run (which never really gave me a problem anyway, it's that stinking LB2 that always puts up a fight). So I also downloaded the LB2 installer from this forum, but that did not work for me, unfortunately. I tried reading through the threads to see if I could figure it out, but to no avail.

So my questions are:

Do I need to use the DOSBox and the LB2 installer together for the game to work?
If not, when using the installer, it won't read the disc that my game is on (disc 3 of the King's Quest Collection Series)
When using the DOSBox, after mounting the CD-rom, it kept saying the command to "install" or "setup" was illegal, even though everything worked fine for getting LB1 to work.

Speaking of LB1, does my game save in DOSBox even though I have to mount it every time?

Thanks to any who cares to read!

If you used the installer from here, run the diagnostic and attach the results here as a file.

Hi Collector,

I had a feeling you were going to say that! :) I'll have to wait until my hubby gets back so he can show me how to do that... hopefully will put it up within the hour. Thanks for the reply!

Start > All Programs > Sierra > King's Quest Collection Series > Diagnostic Tool > Select "The Dagger of Amon RA"

Post the results here.

My hubby looked at the problem... he said it doesn't have the diagnostic tool because the Laura Bow 2 for DOSBox program was not installed (I'm sure I didn't explain the problem well enough in the first post). It won't read the disc that the program is on (disc 3 of 3 of the KQ Collection Series... from 1997). Here's a screenshot of what happens... it just keeps popping out the CD even though that's the CD the game files are on.

You are trying to use the installer for the standalone version of the game. It was not designed for the version that came with the Collection Series. Use the KQ Collection Series installer.

Oh, wow. So the problem was that I was just a complete dunce!

Well, that's okay, because it's now working. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction! I've never had it run so easily before. Thank you very much!!
