No, 8-bit Color depth, not 8 colors. In other words, a palate of 256 colors or the color depth of VGA. Cycling what 256 colors are used in the palate at any given time has the effect of a larger palate. The palates Sierra used in the SCI game used a different palate for each room. Probably the closest that Sierra came to anything like dynamic palate cycling was the change in the QfG games to change from day to night.
