QFG4 - Error 52 in DOSBox

I'm running the most recent version of DOSBox, I've installed the patch, and I'm still getting that Error 52 in swamp with the Chernovies. Everything I read tells me that this problem shouldn't be happening with DOSBox. Is there anything I'm supposed to do with DOSBox first to fix it?

Floppy or CD version? What cycles and what core do you have set? How did you apply the patch? What class?

By the way, if you're playing from a saved game in which you had already entered the swamp, the saved game is corrupted and nothing can fix it. IF that's the problem, you would need to play from an earlier saved game...

I encountered the same problem. If you're playing the Collection version of QfG4, I fear that there aren't any solutions, except the one I found which isn't a solution but simply a matter of luck.

I settled Details at the lowest and speed at the highest. As soon as you enter the Chernovies screen, run in the middle of the screen so that you're in the very center of the spells casted by the two monsters. In this position I didn't experienced the bug, plus the two monsters can't do anything to you.

From this spot, cast attack spells (or throw something) at the monster on the left. It will seem that you aren't doing any damage but eventually the left one will die. From that moment one, you are free to beat the right one in a normal challenge.

Wnever I start DOSBox, I usually bump it up to 10000 cycles (is there a way to do this automatically?) I'm not sure about how the core works. I'm using the CD version. The patch was applied simply by unzipping it into the folder.

The problem may be that I've already been to the swamp and saved before installing the patch. Fortunately, I'm only three days in, so restarting is no big deal.

I'll try Andrea's idea first before giving up and restarting.

Datadog, then the explanation is definitely that you've already been to the swamp and saved.

Once you've done that, you cannot use that saved game - it is corrupted and there is nothing you can do to "fix" that particular saved game.

Don't you have earlier saved games? I'm a pack rat when it comes to saved games - save often and save at multiple spots with identifying save game names is my motto.

If this is the stand alone CD version, try my QfG4 DOSBox installer. It will setup DOSBox automatically for you.

I do the same thing - I just thought you meant the swamp in general since you have to walk through it to get to the forest at the beginning. I had a save game several screens back I could fall back on.

It works! I can kick those monsters' butts now! Thanks!

You don't even need the CD to play, now. Enjoy this great game.

I have 1 question about these bugs that people are experiencing. By running the game with out the cd and running the game with the patches and under DOSBox will that decrease the odds of not running into the bugs?

Absolutely. The bugs are timer bugs. DOSBox alone can fix them, but you really want to use the patches, too.
