QFG IV for Mac

Can anyone recommend a good source for this game? I have a few of the floppy disks (from about a badgillion years ago) but don't have them all, sadly - and I have a pretty recent imac, so no floppy disk drive anyways.

While poking around on this site I noticed links to DOSBox and a site called gog - is that where I should go to download the game? Or is it better/less buggy to nab the cd from ebay? I've seen links on the net claiming to have downloads of the game for free, but I haven't been able to get them to work without crashing in the swamp by the tomb.

I tried the directions on this site to install the patches with DOSBox, but I still get error 52. I also attempted the DOSBox installers, but I get an error message stating that the files (qfganthologysetup.exe and afgcollectionseriessetup.exe) can't be run in dos mode.

Any help would be most appreciated, as this game has been on my "re-beat" list for years now.

Thanks in advance for the help!

The new installers will setup the DOS based games are setup to run in DOSBox, but the installers are written to run in Windows. I did once have someone from VOGONS volunteer to write some Mac versions of my installers, but he ran out of time before he got too far. Many of the installers will run with WINE on Linux and possibly may work on Mac, too. You would still want to replace the Windows DOSBox with the Mac port of DOSBox. Of course the GOG version could be setup to run on Mac by replacing DOSBox with the Mac port, too. I don't know if the GOG installer will work in Wine or not. If you have access to a PC, you can install the game on it and copy the game's folder to your Mac. You would need to adapt the dosbox.conf for your Mac and start DOSBox with it.

Some Mac users will recommend Boxer, a frontend with a modified version of DOSBox, but I usually do not as the author of Boxer tries to configure and patch games without much knowledge of some games and the fact that he uses a modified version of DOSBox that may lead to unpredictable results.
