Norton Internet Security Warning

Post by gat »

Just a quick note to let you know that my Norton Internet Security keeps trying to block this site because of two alleged trojans (in the KQ and LSL Collection Series installers). Norton tends not to trust anything new, and I'm not sure you can do anything about this -- but I just wanted to let you know since this might scare others away.

Thanks for the heads up. I scanned these two files with both Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials and no threats were detected. I also checked the MD5 these two files and they are identical to what I originally uploaded. All but three of the included EXEs were not compiled by me. Those three are DOS EXEs that came directly from Sierra's FTP.

I used to use a third party utility to compile some of my custom batch files into EXEs, but Norton used to throw false positives on these, so I replaced all of them with ones I compiled manually. I thought that I might have missed replacing these two, but what is on the server are the updated installers. I don't know if Norton blacklisted it back then, but we are talking years, now.

That said, Norton is by far the worst about false positives. Their Enterprise software is not too bad, but the consumer causes more problems than it prevents.
