Sierra Tournament: Best Easter Egg! (Round 1)

So every now and then (or very frequently, depending on how quickly we find these things), the Sierra devs like to cram little hidden surprises into their games. Sometimes they'd wink to the audience and joke about one of their other games. Other times, they'd hide pictures of their families or themselves in unexpected locations. And other times, they'd go that extra mile either for marketing purposes or for the heck of it. And every now and then, we find that little extra something. Here is the Best Easter Egg Tournament!

Here are our contenders:

Conquest of Camelot: Ham and Jam and Spam A Lot
No, let's not go to the Camelot treasury. It is a silly place. Especially when the knights begin dancing when you type this special command.

Quest for Glory 2: Throw Dagger at Julanar
Sometimes a game decides that a simple evil act of attacking a tree woman is too much for your honor to handle. So it does what comes naturally: it breaks your screen and crashes the game.

GK3: Sidney Spoils GK4
Here's an easy one to find: hop on your computer and run an inquiry about Gabriel Knight 4. The subject matter may intrigue some fans.

Torin's Passage: The Bagpipe Ending
Did you get the real ending of the game? Because according to Al Lowe, there's only one real ending to this whole game, and it's the one where he congratulates you with a personal message for getting yourself killed in the stupidest way imaginable. Good job!

Phantasmagoria: Scary Glowing Baby Picture
There's a baby picture. It's scary when you do certain events in a specific order.

King's Quest II: Holy Batman, Graham!
This random occurrence is one of the earlier easter eggs. Just keep visiting Hagatha's cave and you'll soon discover her secret identity. Comes complete with Bat-mobile and 1966 theme song.

Gabriel Knight 3: The Disco Bartender/The Egg Icon
The Easter Egg icon in GK3 unearths a plethora of hidden surprises, including backflips galore. But use it in Rennes-Le-Chateau and watch the 70's unfold as the bartender hits the lights, the texture swaps kick in, and he gets down!

Space Quest I: Don't Touch!
"So we need an in-game advertisement for King's Quest or Conquests of the Longbow. Can you hack something together?" "How about we kill Roger by crash-landing him in one of those game? There could be a button that takes him there." "Nah, too easy. Too obvious." "The button could say 'don't touch.'" "I LOVE IT."

King's Quest IV: Beam Me Up!
In the AGI version of the game, you can type this special command outside the dungeon to take Rosella into outer space and hobnob with some very interesting individuals.

Space Quest II: Cheat to Win!
Quick! Need to win SQ2? There's a cheat for that. Just type "cheat!"

Leisure Suit Larry 5+6+7: BOOBIES!
So, who likes playing with Chi Chi Lambada's loose button? Or Cavaricchi's tank top? Or pushing branches? Or unzipping statues? Or milking beavers? The Larry games are generally very modest as far as explicit nudity goes, so when you want boobies, you have to work for them.

King's Quest II: The Sarien Encounter
Does "look in hole" count as an Easter egg? Does King Graham standing on a mountain near a horse-turned-snake watching a preview for a space adventure sound like something that should exist? Well, it does.

Space Quest IV: Return to Ortega
As a small detour, you can escape SQ10 by hammering in the first few digits on the keypad and discover a secret route to SQ3! The only catch? You didn't bring your thermal underwear.

Gabriel Knight: Car Crash
"All right, Gerde! I'm heading out to Africa!" "Whatever you do, don't hold space on your way out!" "What? Why noooOOOOTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!....."

King's Quest IV: Rappin' Rosella
Ah, that AGI KQ4. Just go to the prison cell, type "rap kq" and watch the magic as Rosella starts breakdancing and performs a late 80's white-person rap about shipping games. Why isn't this in every game?

Phantasmagoria 2: Bellybutton Games
Don't want to play P2? In the mood for something old school? Feel like hacking your co-worker's account? With a certain password, you can unlock the magic of Pong, Asteroid, and Space Invaders for three games within a game!

And those are our warriors! Vote below on the following eight battles and next round will begin next week!

Round 1! Fight!

1. "Conquest of Camelot: Ham and Jam and Spam A Lot" vs. "Quest for Glory 2: Throw Dagger at Julanar"
2. "Gabriel Knight 3: Sidney Spoils GK4" vs. "Torin's Passage: The Bagpipe Ending"

six was an unfair one. I mean, King's Quest AND Space Quest or boobies.

Alright, after youtubing the ones I din't know, here's the verdict:

1. "Quest for Glory 2: Throw Dagger at Julanar" This one was tough. Both come way out of left field, but this one's absurdity wins out.
2. "Torin's Passage: The Bagpipe Ending" I didn't know of this before, pretty ridiculous!
3. "King's Quest II: Holy Batman, Graham!"
4. "Space Quest I: Don't Touch!"
5. "King's Quest IV: Beam Me Up!"
6. "Leisure Suit Larry 5+6+7: BOOBIES!" I didn't know about 5 or 6, but 7's was pretty extensive.
7. "Space Quest IV: Return to Ortega" Probably my favourite easter egg.
8. "Phantasmagoria 2: Bellybutton Games" I couldn't find this one, but the concept sounds pretty amusing.

Yeah, and the only reason I chose the ladder is because GOG.com's main marketing guy, alias TheEnigmaticT, spelled out the release of Leisure Suit Larry on GOG.com in a somewhat unsubtle way (no pictures involved FYI).
