I'm wondering if someone can explain to me in layman's terms how to get past the cannot save issue with KQ5
The site says:
Problem - Problems Saving Game:
There is an odd bug with playing King's Quest V in DOSBox. When trying to save the game, you will receive the message:
"This directory/disk can hold no more saved games. You must replace one of your saved games or use Change Directory to save on a different directory/disk."
Solution :
You must specify the full path to the RESOURCE.CFG when starting the game. Do not start the game from the game's main executable. If the game's folder is mounted in DOSBox as the C: drive, start it from the command line with:
sierra c:\resource.cfg
You can also automate this by adding it to the autoexec section of your dosbox.conf. Just remember -- you must specify the exact path to the RESOURCE.CFG file as DOSBox will see it.
Can someone explain to me what this means? I found the dosbox.conf file, at the bottom it says autoexec, but what do I actually type in there?
The file path is
"C:\Users\User\Desktop\King's Quest V- Absence Makes The Heart Go Yonder\King's Quest 5 CD.exe" for the exe file, or C:\Users\User\Desktop\King's Quest V- Absence Makes The Heart Go Yonder\dosbox.conf
Thanks for any help!

Re: King's Quest 5, can't save
You reinstalled to a folder on your desktop? Do you still have the failed installation installed? If that is the conf file that is being used to start the game, you should not be getting the problem. How are you starting the game?

Re: King's Quest 5, can't save
I just reinstalled it to "C:\Sierra\King's Quest 5 CD\King's Quest 5 CD.exe""
instead of having to moved to my desktop to eliminate any extra problems. I'm still having the same issue with the saving though.
The DOSBox reads as follows now:
[sdl]
output= overlay
fullresolution= 0x0
windowresolution= 800x600
fullscreen= false
autolock= false

machine= svga_s3

[autoexec]
cls
@ECHO OFF
mount c "C:\Sierra\King's Quest 5 CD"
c:
cd \
SIERRA C:\RESOURCE.CFG
exit

Re: King's Quest 5, can't save
Attach a diagnostic from the new install.

Re: King's Quest 5, can't save
I was messing around... and just changed the directory to c: with nothing else, and it saved.
/facepalm
Not sure if this is the best fix?

Re: King's Quest 5, can't save
There are a number of files that should not be there and some that are missing. Delete that folder and do a clean install. Do not add any more files to the folder and do not move the folder. Start the game from the shortcut on your desktop or from the one in the Start Menu.
