It is a map of cicada (17-year locust) sightings. This is mostly an eastern phenomena. They be loud!

OoOoOoo. Okay. I should have known that. I have no idea why, but for some reason my brain was trying to relate this to Sierra. (Work has clearly fried my brain!)
